There are three tenses

Present Indefinite Tense

Identity: (“लेता है”, “बेचता है”, “खरीदता है” आदि इस प्रकार की क्रिया (Verb) आये तो ऐसे वाक्य को Present Indefinite Tense कहा जाता है|)

Explanation

This tense is used to express an action in the present moment. It is used to express such actions that happen on a regular base. For

example “I go to office.”

It is daily activity of an employee to go to office. In this type of situation Present Indefinite Tense is used.

Rules

In case of hobbies and habits.

My friend like reading newspaper.

In case of Routines.

He goes to school at 8.00 am.

In case of Universal Truth.

Sun rises in the east.

In case of scientific fact, Geographic fact.

To every action there is equal and opposite reaction.

Moon is the natural satellite of earth.

In case of the action to be performed in near future.

We leave for Kanpur next Saturday.

In case of expressing present moment.

My friend lives in Mumbai.

Rule

Am/is/are + -ing is the present continuous.

Example

  • The girl is writing an article.
  • He is not dancing in the party.
  • Is Giridhar coming at college?
  • Is Smarty not working after 5 Pm?

Explanation

Present continuous tense is used to express an ongoing action at present time. It expresses an action at the time of speaking. For

example: “I am reading a newspaper.”

It means that the person is in process of reading the newspaper. In this type of situation Present Continuous Tense is used.

Rules

In case of action in progress.

The student is reading the notice board.

In case of Action in near future.

Akash is going to Australia next week.

In case of current trends.

Students are becoming aware of their rights.

In case of habits.

All employees are sitting at canteen for lunch.

Present Perfect Tense

Tense कहा जाता है   )

Explanation

I have lived in Delhi since 2000 and now I am at Mumbai.

So, in this example it is clear that the action is started in past and still continues in the present. During this period of time the process is

still going on. It is Present perfect tense.

Rules

In case of any activity completed in the past.

have completed all the chapters of English.

In case of past action whose result still continues.

Science has given us many blessings.

It is used with words like recently, already, presently, often, till now, frequently, just now etc.

I have already submitted your report.

Present Perfect Continuous Tense

Identity : ("देख रहा है ", "सुन रहा है", "उत्पन्न कर रहा है", "खा रहा है " आदि इस प्रकार की क्रिया (Verb) आये और यदि वाक्य के बीच मे समय जैसे: "सुबह से

", "चार बजे से ", "सोमवार से ", "10 बजे से" आदि आये तो ऐसे वाक्य को Present perfect continuous tense कहा जाता है।)

Kamal has been waiting for you all day.

 (He is still waiting now)

The action started in the past and still carrying on. In these kinds of situations Present Perfect continuous Tense is used.

Rules

Any action started at a given time in past and still going on.

Parul has been studying since four o’ clock.

In case of repletion of action.

have been asking him to stop wasting time.

#Note

Use of ‘Since’ and ‘for’

  1. it is used for point of time. For example: 8’O clock, noon, night, tomorrow, yesterday, X-mass, 2009 etc.
  2. It is used for the period of time. It is used for not exact time. For example: for two hour, for few days, for many years etc.

Translation Examples

1). मै तुम्हे दोपहर से पढ़ा रहा हँ।

I have been teaching you since noon.

2). वो दो घंटे से गोलमाल बात कर रहा है।

He has been talking round for two hour.

3). तुम घर दो साल से कहा बना रहे हो?

Where have you been making the house for two years?

4). भारतीय स्वतंत्रदिवस 1947 से मना रहे है।

The Indians have been celebrating the Independence Day since 1947.
