1. SPURN (verb, noun) – तिरस्कार करना
Pronunciation
: spuhn
Meaning: to refuse to accept something; an act of spurning
Synonyms: refuse, decline, reject, rebuff, scorn, turn down
Usage
•    He can spurn everything except chicken nuggets and ice cream. (verb)
•    Step mother’s spurn of responsibilities made the father feel hurt. (noun)

2. OVERTURE (noun) – परिचय, भूमिका
Pronunciation: ovuh-chuh
Meaning: an introduction to something more important or essential
Synonyms: preliminary, prelude, curtain-raiser, introduction, lead-in, precursor, forerunner, harbinger, herald
Antonyms: concluding, closing, final
Usage: The talks were no more than an overture to a long debate.

3. GHASTLY (adjective) – भयंकर, भयानक; अस्वस्थ
Pronunciation
: gaastli
Meaning: causing great horror or fear; extremely unwell; very objectionable, bad, or unpleasant
Synonyms: terrible, frightful, horrible, grim, awful, dire, frightening; ill, unwell, washed out, peaky, sick, queasy, nauseous; unpleasant, objectionable, offensive, disagreeable, distasteful
Antonyms: pleasant, trivial, excusable; fine; charming
Usage:
•    It was one of the most ghastly crimes ever committed.
•    Even after passing so many days after her accident, her health is ghastly.
•    The weather was ghastly.

4. FORESHADOW (verb) – पूर्वाभास; पूर्वलक्षण
Pronunciation
: fo-shado
Meaning: be a warning or indication of (a future event)
Synonyms: augur, presage, portend, prognosticate, foreshow, foretell
Usage: Those dark clouds foreshadow a storm.

5. ARRESTING (adjective) – चित्तग्राही
Pronunciation
: ures-ting
Meaning: eye-catching
Synonyms: striking, conspicuous, noticeable, impressive, imposing, spectacular, dazzling, amazing
Antonyms: inconspicuous, unexceptional
Usage: The mountains are the most arresting feature of Kashmir.

6. PESTILENT (adjective) – विनाशक, प्राणघाती
Pronunciation:
pesti-l(u)nt
Meaning: destructive to life
Synonyms: deadly, fatal, lethal
Antonyms: harmless, beneficial
Usage: Covid-19 is a pestilent virus.

7. ABNEGATE (verb) – अस्वीकार करना
Pronunciation:
abni-geit
Meaning: reject something desired or valuable
Synonyms: renounce, abandon, give up, relinquish, abjure
Antonym: accept
Usage: The athlete decided to abnegate the unhealthy snack even though she really wanted to have a bite.

8. HIGHFALUTIN (adjective) – अलंकृत, मिथ्याभिमानी
Pronunciation:
hai-fuloo-tin
Meaning: (especially of speech, writing, or ideas) pompous or pretentious
Synonyms: pretentious, high-sounding, high-flown, lofty, grandiose, ornate, florid, flowery
Antonym: unpretentious
Usage: It is a mistake to use highfalutin language when you advertise to uneducated people.

9. DISSENSION (noun) – मतभेद, अनबन
Pronunciation: disen-shun
Meaning: disagreement that leads to discord
Synonyms: dispute, dissent, variance, conflict
Antonyms: agreement, harmony
Usage: These issues caused bitter dissension in the party.

10. WONKY (adjective) – वक्र
Pronunciation
: wonki
Meaning: not straight
Synonyms: crooked, off-centre, lopsided, askew, skew, skew-whiff
Antonym: straight
Usage: Legs of this chair are a bit wonky.
