1. UNSWERVING (adjective) – अडिग
Pronunciation: un-swuh-ving
Meaning: not changing or becoming weaker; steady or constant
Synonyms: unwavering, unfaltering, unhesitating, unflinching, steadfast
Antonyms: half-hearted, ambiguous, unreliable
Usage: He had an unswerving devotion to duty.

 

2. PROWL (verb, noun) – छिपकर जाना; घात लगाना
Pronunciation: pra-ul
Meaning: (of a person or animal) move about restlessly and stealthily, especially in search of prey; an act of prowling
Synonyms: slink, skulk, steal, nose, pussyfoot, sneak
Usage:
• Many wild animals prowl at night looking for something to eat. (verb)
• There was a fox on the prowl near the chickens. (noun)

 

3. REPROVE (verb) – निंदा करना, धिक्कारना
Pronunciation: ri-proov
Meaning: criticize or scold
Synonyms: reprimand, rebuke, reproach, admonish
Antonyms: praise, compliment
Usage: The teacher reproved him for his coming late again.

 

4. SCAREMONGER (noun) – तहलका मचानेवाला, आतंक फैलानेवाला
Pronunciation: ske-monger
Meaning: a person who spreads frightening or ominous reports or rumours
Synonyms: alarmist, doom-monger
Usage: Some scaremongers say that national GDP will decline soon.

 

5. ARDENT (adjective) – उत्साही, उत्सुक
Pronunciation: aa-d(u)nt
Meaning: very enthusiastic or passionate
Synonyms: passionate, avid, impassioned, fervent, fervid, zealous
Antonym: half-hearted
Usage: All her life she was an ardent feminist.

6. COMMODIOUS (adjective) – बड़ा, खुला
Pronunciation: kum-odi-us
Meaning: roomy and comfortable
Synonyms: capacious, spacious
Antonym: cramped
Usage: The apartment is not commodious enough for us.

 

7. FROWZY (adjective) – गन्दा, मैला कुचैला
Pronunciation: frau-zi
Meaning: untidy or unkempt in appearance
Synonyms: scruffy, unkempt, untidy, sloppy, messy, dishevelled, slovenly
Antonym: tidy
Usage: The frowzy street was disgusting.

 

8. RIFLE (verb) – ढूंढना, खोजना; चुराना
Pronunciation: rai-f(u)l
Meaning: search through something in a hurried way in order to find or steal something; steal
Synonyms: rummage, search, hunt, forage; burgle, rob, loot, raid, plunder, sack, ransack, pillage
Usage:
• She rifled through the cassette tapes.
• He rifled the dead man's possessions.

 

9. HAVEN (noun) – आश्रय, शरण
Pronunciation: hei-v(u)n
Meaning: a place of safety
Synonyms: refuge, retreat, shelter, sanctuary, asylum
Usage: The river banks are a haven for wildlife.

 

10. BAWL (verb, noun) – चिल्लाना; विलाप करना
Pronunciation: bo-l
Meaning: shout or call out noisily and unrestrainedly; weep or cry noisily; a loud, unrestrained shout
Synonyms: shout, call out, cry out, cry, yell, roar, bellow, screech; sob, weep, shed tears
Antonym: whisper

Usage:

• I began to bawl like a child. (verb)
• A good bawl usually makes her feel better. (noun)
