1. PLEA (verb) – दलील
Pronunciation: plee
Meaning: a request made in an urgent and emotional manner
Synonyms: appeal, entreaty, supplication, petition, payer, request
Usage: They made a desperate plea for help.

2. CUMBERSOME (adjective) – बोझिल
Pronunciation: kum-bur-sum
Meaning: large or heavy and therefore difficult to carry or use
Synonyms: unwieldy, unmanageable, awkward, clumsy
Antonyms: manageable, convenient
Usage: It was difficult to wear cumbersome diving suits.

3. BLIGHT (noun, verb) – नुक़सानदेह
Pronunciation: blait
Meaning: a thing that spoils or damages something; have a severely harmful effect on
Synonyms: affliction, scourge, bane, curse; ruin, wreck, spoil, disrupt
Antonym: blessing
Usage:

  • Her guilty secret was a blight on her happiness. (noun)
  • The scandal blighted the careers of several leading politicians. (verb)

4. PROBE (noun, verb) – तहक़ीक़ात, छानबीन
Pronunciation: pro-b
Meaning: a thorough investigation into a crime or other matter; physically explore or examine (something) with the hands or an instrument; seek to uncover information about someone or something
Synonyms: investigation, inquiry, examination, scrutiny, inquest; examine, explore, investigate, scrutinize
Usage:

  • Fire investigators were expected to launch a probe into the cause of the blaze later today. (noun)
  • A robot is being sent inside the school to probe the building for explosive devices. (verb)
  • She tried to probe his mind to find out what he was thinking. (verb)

5. TOADY (adjective, verb) – चापलूस
Pronunciation: to-di
Meaning: a person who praises and is artificially pleasant to people in authority, usually in order to get some advantage from them
Synonyms: sycophant, obsequious, creep, crawler, fawner, flatterer, flunkey
Antonyms: independent; defy
Usage:

  • The boss doesn’t like toady employees. (adjective)
  • She was always toadying to the boss, but she didn't get a promotion out of it. (verb)

6. PROACTIVE (adjective) – सक्रिय
Pronunciation: pro-ak-tiv
Meaning: (of a person or action) creating or controlling a situation rather than just responding to it after it has happened
Synonyms: enterprising, energetic, motivated
Usage: Managers must be proactive in identifying and preventing potential problems.

7. DIDACTIC (adjective) – शिक्षाप्रद
Pronunciation: did-ak-tik / dai-dak-tik
Meaning: intended to teach
Synonyms: instructive, instructional, educational, educative, informative, informational
Usage: His novel has a didactic tone.

8. CONCEDE (verb) – मान लेना
Pronunciation: kun-seed
Meaning: admit or agree that something is true after first denying or resisting it
Synonyms: admit, acknowledge, accept
Antonym: deny
Usage: I had to concede that I'd overreacted.

9. ALIGHT (verb) – उतरना, नीचे आना
Pronunciation: alait
Meaning: to come down from a train, bus, or other form of transport
Synonyms: get off, get down, dismount, disembark, descend
Antonyms: get on, board
Usage: They alighted from the bus.

10. QUIP (verb) – वाक्य-वाण, परिहास
Pronunciation: kwip
Meaning: a humorous and clever remark
Synonyms: joke, jest, pun, sally, banter, gag
Usage: He ended his speech with a merry quip.
