1. RAMPAGE (noun, verb) – उपद्रव, कोलाहल
Pronunciation: ram-peij
Meaning: (especially of a large group of people) move through a place in a violent and uncontrollable manner; a period of violent and uncontrollable behaviour by a group of people
Synonyms: riot, run riot; berserk, wild, violent, frenzied
Usage: Gangs of youths went on the rampage in the city yesterday.

2. REVILE (verb) – बुरा भला कहना
Pronunciation: ri-vail
Meaning: criticize in an abusive or angrily insulting manner
Synonyms: criticize, censure, condemn
Antonyms: praise, extol
Usage: They feared that he would revile them if they displeased him.

3. CHANT (verb, noun) – गुनगुनाना, रट लगाना
Pronunciation: shant
Meaning: a repeated rhythmic phrase, typically one shouted or sung in unison by a crowd; say or shout repeatedly in a sing-song tone
Synonyms: shout, cry, slogan; sing, chorus, carol, repeat
Usage:

  • The subject of his poem is to chant the praises of labour heroes. (verb)
  • A group of young people set up a chant of 'Why are we waiting?' (noun)

4. ELEPHANTINE (adjective) – गजरूप, बेडौल, भद्दा
Pronunciation: eli-fan-tain
Meaning: very large like an elephant; not graceful; awkward or clumsy
Synonyms: enormous, huge, great, massive, giant, immense
Antonym: small, little, minute
Usage: She's so tiny; she makes me feel elephantine.

5. GLINT (verb) – झलकना, जगमगाहट
Pronunciation:
glint
Meaning: give out or reflect small flashes of light
Synonyms: shine, gleam, glitter, sparkle, twinkle
Usage: Among the trees I caught a glint of blue.

6. SPLINTER (noun, verb) – किरच
Pronunciation: splin-tur
Meaning: a small, thin, sharp piece of wood, glass, or similar material broken off from a larger piece; break or cause to break into small sharp fragments
Synonyms: sliver, shiver, chip, shard; shatter, smash
Antonyms: log, timber
Usage:

  • A small splinter of metal had lodged in his thumb. (noun)
  • The mirror cracked but did not splinter. (verb)

7. DEFAMATION (noun) – मानहानि, बदनामी
Pronunciation: defum-eishun
Meaning: the action of damaging the good reputation of someone
Synonyms: libel, slander, character assassination, calumny, vilification
Antonym: commendation
Usage: It was a pure case of defamation because the athlete had never abused his wife.

8. SUE (verb) – मुक़दमा चलाना
Pronunciation: syoo
Meaning: institute legal proceedings against (a person or institution); appeal formally to a person for something
Synonyms: charge, appeal; petition, ask, beg, plead, entreat, prosecute
Usage:

  • He has threatened to sue the company for negligence.
  • The rebels were forced to sue for peace.

9. NUB (noun) – मर्म, निचोड़
Pronunciation: nub
Meaning: central point of a matter
Synonyms: crux, core, heart, centre, nucleus, essence
Usage: The nub of the problem is our poor export performance.

10. SCAMP (noun) – शरारती
Pronunciation: skamp
Meaning: a person, especially a child, who is mischievous in a likeable or amusing way
Synonyms: imp, rogue, wretch, mischief-maker, troublemaker
Antonyms: innocent
Usage: That little scamp, Jimmy, has hidden my slippers again.
