1. MEMOIR (noun) – संस्मरण, वृत्तान्त
Pronunciation: memwaa
Meaning: a historical account or biography written from personal knowledge
Synonyms: account, history, chronicle, commentary, narrative
Usage: She wrote a memoir of her stay in France.

2. PROPONENT (noun) – समर्थक, प्रस्तावक
Pronunciation: propo-nunt
Meaning: a person who advocates a theory, proposal, or course of action
Synonyms: advocate, supporter, upholder, exponent, promoter, adherent
Usage: Marie is such a proponent of water conservation that she only takes shower only once a week.

3. DISCRETION (noun) – विवेक, ‍स्वनिर्णय
Pronunciation: dis-kresh(u)n
Meaning: the quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offence or revealing confidential information; the freedom to decide what should be done in a particular situation
Synonyms: circumspection, care, caution, wariness, tact
Antonym: indiscretion
Usage:

  • She knew she could rely on his discretion.
  • The committee has the absolute discretion to refuse applications.

4. TAINT (verb) – दूषित करना
Pronunciation: teint
Meaning: contaminate or pollute (something); affect with a bad or undesirable quality
Synonyms: contaminate, pollute, adulterate, infect, blight, befoul, spoil; tarnish, sully, stain, besmirch
Antonyms: clean, improve
Usage:

  • The air was tainted by fumes from the cars.
  • The warm weather will taint the food.

5. CONDONE (verb) – माफ करना
Pronunciation: kun-do-n
Meaning: accept (behaviour that is considered morally wrong or offensive)
Synonyms: accept, allow, pardon, excuse, forgive
Antonyms: condemn, punish
Usage: I cannot condone the use of violence.

6. LAGGARD (noun, adjective) – निस्तेज, आलसी
Pronunciation: lag-ud
Meaning: a person who makes slow progress and falls behind others; slower than desired or expected
Synonyms: straggler, sluggard, slug
Usage: There is always one laggard who comes in the theater after the movie has started.

7. STIPULATION (noun) – शर्त
Pronunciation: sti-pyu-lei-sh(u)n
Meaning: a condition or requirement that is specified or demanded as part of an agreement
Synonyms: condition, precondition, proviso, provision
Usage: If I lend you my car, my only stipulation is that you fill up the gas tank before returning it.

8. SLICK (adjective) – कुशल, निपुण
Pronunciation: slik
Meaning: done or operating in an impressively smooth and efficient way
Synonyms: efficient, smooth, smooth-running, polished, well organized
Antonyms: amateurish, clumsy, inexpert
Usage: The dancers gave a very slick performance.

9. PREVAIL (verb) – जीतना; समझाना
Pronunciation: pri-veil
Meaning: prove more powerful or superior; persuade (someone) to do something
Synonyms: win, triumph, conquer; persuade, induce, coax, convince
Usage:

  • Truth will prevail.
  • She was prevailed upon to give an account of her work.

10. COLLOQUIAL (adjective) – बोलचाल की भाषा
Pronunciation: kulo-kwi-ul
Meaning: (of language) used in ordinary or familiar conversation
Synonyms: informal, conversational, casual, natural, unofficial, unpretentious
Antonyms: literary, formal
Usage: The best way of improving your colloquial English is by listening to native speakers.
