1. MONSTROSITY (noun) – कुरूपता, भद्दापन
Pronunciation: mon-stro-siti
Meaning: a thing (especially a building) which is very large and extremely ugly or unattractive
Synonyms: eyesore, horror, carbuncle, excrescence
Usage: The new hotel is a monstrosity that blocks my view of the beach.
 
2. PETTY (adjective) तुच्छ, नीचतापूर्ण
Pronunciation: peti
Meaning: of little importance
Synonyms: trivial, trifling, minor, slight, unimportant
Antonyms: important, serious, major
Usage: These petty rules can lead to frustration and anger.
 
3. FETTER (noun, verb) बेड़ी, बंधन; बेड़ी डालना, रोक लगाना
Pronunciation: fet-uh
Meaning: a chain or manacle used to restrain a prisoner, typically placed around the ankles; to keep someone within limits or stop them from making progress; to tie someone to a place by putting chains around their ankles
Synonyms: shackles, manacles, handcuffs; restrict, restrain, constrain, confine
Usage:
  • The metal fetter prevented the slave from moving quickly. (noun)
  • Your fear is the fetter preventing you from going after your dream. (noun)
  • You may imprison my body, but actually you cannot fetter my mind. (verb)
4. REACTIONARY (adjective, noun) – प्रतिगामी
Pronunciation: ri-aksh(u)n(u)ri
Meaning: opposing political or social progress; a reactionary person
Synonyms: right-wing, conservative, rightist; right-winger
Antonyms: radical, progressive
Usage:
  • Reactionary politicians voted against the proposal. (adjective)

5. BLASÉ (adjective) ऊबा हुआ, उकताया हुआ
Pronunciation: blaa-zei
Meaning: unimpressed with or indifferent to something because one has experienced or seen it so often before
Synonyms: impassive, dispassionate, emotionless, insouciant, jaded
Antonyms: responsive, excited
Usage: She is very blasé about parties.
 
 
6. STERILIZE (verb) कीटाणुरहित बनाना
Pronunciation: steri-laiz
Meaning: make (something) free from bacteria or other living microorganisms
Synonyms: disinfect, purify, fumigate, decontaminate
Antonyms: contaminate
Usage: Sterilize the bottles with boiling water.
 
7. OUTSTRIP (verb) पीछे छोड़ कर आगे निकल जाना
Pronunciation: aut-strip
Meaning: move faster than and overtake (someone else)
Synonyms: outrun, outdistance, outpace
Usage: We soon outstripped the slower runners.
 
8. TARRY (verb) विलंब करना
Pronunciation: tari
Meaning: stay longer than intended; delay leaving a place
Synonyms: linger, loiter, procrastinate, dawdle
Antonyms: hurry, rush
Usage: It is a bad idea that we should tarry in these dangerous woods.
 
9. JEST (verb) – हंसी मज़ाक करना
Pronunciation: jest
Meaning: speak in a joking way
Synonyms: joke, crack, quip, gag, sally, pun
Usage: Don't jest about such important matters.
 
10. DESPOIL (verb) लूटना, डाका डालना
Pronunciation: di-spo-il
Meaning: steal or violently remove valuable possessions
Synonyms: plunder, pillage, rob, ravage, harry, maraud, ravish
Usage:
  • The thief despoiled the old man of his belongings.
