1. WARY (adjective) – सावधान, चौकन्ना
Pronunciation:
we-ri
Meaning: feeling or showing caution about possible dangers or problems
Synonyms: cautious, careful, circumspect, chary, alert
Antonyms: unwary, inattentive, trustful
Usage: Be wary of strangers who offer you a ride.

2. SMOULDER (verb) – सुलगना
Pronunciation:
smo-lder
Meaning: burn slowly with smoke but no flame; show or feel suppressed anger, hatred, or another powerful emotion; exist in a suppressed or concealed state
Synonyms: smoke, reek; seethe, boil, fume, burn
Usage:

  • The smoulder suddenly became a blaze.
  • Her eyes smoulder with jealousy.

3. BEHOLDEN (adjective) – आभारी, एहसानमंद
Pronunciation:
bi-ho-lden
Meaning: owing thanks or having a duty to someone in return for help or a service
Synonyms: indebted, obligated, obliged, bound
Usage: I don't like to be beholden to anybody.

4. INCUR (verb) – झेलना, भुगतना
Pronunciation:
in-ker
Meaning: become subject to (something unwelcome or unpleasant) as a result of one's own behaviour or actions
Synonyms: suffer, sustain, experience
Antonym: avoid
Usage: The play has incurred the anger of both audiences and critics.

5. SLOUGH (verb) – केंचुली उतारना
Pronunciation:
sluf
Meaning: remove a layer of dead skin
Synonyms: discard, shed, jettison, scrap
Antonyms: keep, acquire
Usage: All reptiles have to slough their skin to grow.

6. TEETOTAL (adjective) – मद्य-निषेधवादी
Pronunciation: tee-to-tul
Meaning: choosing or characterized by abstinence from alcohol
Synonyms: abstinent, abstemious, sober
Antonyms: bibulous, boozy
Usage: He won't drink because he is teetotal.

7. BEHEST (noun) – आदेश

Meaning: a person's orders or command

Usage: They arrested him at the King's behest.

8. EXPOUND (verb) – व्याख्या करना
Pronunciation: iks-paund / eks-paund
Meaning: present and explain (a theory or idea) in detail
Synonyms: present, proffer, offer, advance, propose, propound, frame
Usage: He was expounding a powerful argument.

9. ENORMITY (noun) – अति दुष्टता, महापाप
Pronunciation: ino-miti
Meaning: the great or extreme scale, seriousness, or extent of something perceived as bad or morally wrong; a serious crime or sin
Synonyms: wickedness, baseness, blackness, depravity
Antonym: goodness
Usage: A thorough search disclosed the full enormity of the crime.

10. FORMIDABLE (adjective) – भयावह
Pronunciation:
fo-mi-dub(u)l / fum-idub(u)l
Meaning: inspiring fear or respect through being impressively large, powerful, intense, or capable
Synonyms: intimidating, forbidding, redoubtable, daunting, alarming, frightening, terrifying, petrifying, horrifying, chilling, disturbing
Antonyms: comforting, easy, weak
Usage: The two players together make a formidable combination.
