1. CLAMPDOWN (noun) – प्रतिबंध, अवरोध
Pronunciation: klamp-daun
Meaning: a sudden action taken by a government or people in authority to stop or limit a particular activity
Synonyms: suppression, prevention, stopping, crackdown, limitation, restriction, restraint, curb, check
Antonyms: support, encouragement, freedom
Usage: The government has decided to have a clampdown on building roads.

2. FESTER (verb) – सड़ना, गलना
Pronunciation: fes-tur
Meaning: (of food or rubbish) become rotten and offensive to the senses; (of a negative feeling or a problem) become worse or more intense, especially through long-term neglect or indifference
Synonyms: rot, moulder, decay, decompose, putrefy; rankle, chafe
Usage: A dirty wound will probably fester.

3. HUMANE (adjective) – दयालु, दयाशील
Pronunciation: hyu-mein
Meaning: having or showing compassion
Synonyms: compassionate, kind, kindly, kind-hearted, considerate, understanding, sympathetic, tolerant, civilized
Antonyms: cruel, inhumane
Usage: Is it humane to kill animals for food?

4. SACRILEGE (noun) – अपवित्रीकरण
Pronunciation: sakrilij
Meaning: violation or misuse of what is regarded as sacred
Synonyms: desecration, profanity, blasphemy, impiety
Antonym: piety
Usage: Stealing from a place of worship was regarded as sacrilege.

5. INTENT (noun, adjective) – इरादा
Pronunciation: in-tent
Meaning: intention or purpose; determined to do (something); attentively occupied with
Synonyms: aim, purpose, intention, objective; set, determined, insistent, resolved; attentive, absorbed, engrossed, fascinated, enthralled
Antonyms: half-hearted, reluctant; vacant
Usage:

  • He is charged with possession of a gun with intent to commit a robbery.
  • She was intent on pursuing a career in business.

6. REVEL (verb, noun) – आनंद मनाना
Pronunciation: rev-ul
Meaning: enjoy oneself in a lively and noisy way, especially with drinking and dancing; get great pleasure from (a situation or experience)
Synonyms: celebrate, make merry, party, feast; enjoy, love, like, adore; celebration, festivity, jollification, merrymaking
Antonym: mourn, hate
Usage:

  • They spent the evening revelling with their guests.
  • Late-night revels are very common in city life.

7. TOTTER (verb) – लडखड़ाना
Pronunciation: totur
Meaning: move in a feeble or unsteady way; (of a building) shake as if about to collapse
Synonyms: teeter, stagger, wobble, stumble, dodder; shake, sway, tremble, quiver
Usage:

  • The drunkard tottered along the road.
  • Several tall piles of books tottered and fell.

8. SCORCHING (adjective) – झुलसानेवाला; कठोर आलोचना
Pronunciation: sko-ching
Meaning: very hot; (of criticism) harsh
Synonyms: red-hot, blazing, flaming, fiery, burning, blistering, searing; savage, scathing, withering
Antonyms: freezing; mild
Usage:

  • Farmers are busy weeding under scorching sun.
  • Jack showed his dislike for the scorching satire.

9. BESOTTED (adjective) – मुग्ध
Pronunciation: bi-soted
Meaning: completely in love with someone and always thinking of them
Synonyms: infatuated with, smitten with, in love with, love-struck by
Antonym: indifferent
Usage: The gentleman is besotted with a beautiful young girl.

10. SVELTE (adjective) – सुडौल
Pronunciation: svelt
Meaning: (of a person) attractively thin, graceful, and stylish
Synonyms: slender, slim, graceful, elegant, willowy, sylphlike
Antonyms: awkward, ungracious, inflexible, elegant, ugly
Usage: She was svelte and sophisticated.
