1. TEDIUM (noun) – उकताव
Pronunciation: tee-di-um
Meaning: the state or quality of being too long, slow, dull, tiresome, or monotonous
Synonyms: monotony, tediousness, dullness, boredom
Antonyms: variety, excitement
Usage: It is also a time for sociability, a release from the tedium of the job.

2. EXPEDITION (noun) – खोजयात्रा, अभियान
Pronunciation: ekspi-dish(u)n
Meaning: a journey undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose, especially that of exploration, research, or war
Synonyms: journey, voyage, tour, undertaking, enterprise, mission, project, quest
Antonyms: ride, halt
Usage: He decided to postpone the expedition until the following day.

3. SUCCOR (noun, verb) – राहत; परेशानी में सहायता करना
Pronunciation: sukuh
Meaning: assistance and support in times of hardship and distress; give assistance or aid to
Synonyms: aid, help, assistance, ministration, comfort
Usage:

  • Her organization gave succour and strength to those who had been emotionally damaged. (noun)
  • Prisoners of war were liberated and succoured. (verb)

4. STATUTE (noun) – संविधि, क़ानून
Pronunciation: stachyoot / stat-yoot
Meaning: a written law passed by a legislative body
Synonyms: law, regulation, enactment, act, bill, decree, edict, rule
Usage: Protection for the consumer is laid down by statute.

5. EMOLLIENT (adjective) – विलेपन; शांत करनेवाला
Pronunciation: imoli-unt
Meaning: having the quality of softening or soothing the skin; attempting to avoid anger
Synonyms: moisturizing, palliative, balsamic, soothing, softening; conciliatory, conciliating, appeasing, soothing, calming
Antonyms: irritating; aggravating
Usage:

  • Almond oil is renowned for its soothing and emollient properties.
  • Their approach to respond was emollient.

6. PALLIATE (verb) – उपशमन करना; परदा डालना
Pronunciation: pali-eit
Meaning: make (a disease or its symptoms) less severe without removing the cause; disguise the seriousness of (an offence)
Synonyms: alleviate, ease, relieve, soothe, assuage; disguise, hide, conceal, cover
Usage:

  • The oils may not only palliate but also cure the condition.
  • We have no wish to palliate any act of Clara which is manifestly wrong.

7. BESMIRCH (verb) – बदनाम करना, मैला करना
Pronunciation: bis-muh-ch
Meaning: damage (someone's reputation); make (something) dirty or discoloured
Synonyms: sully, tarnish, blacken, stain, taint, smear, befoul
Antonyms: honour, enhance
Usage:

  • His shirt was besmirched with blood.
  • His accusations were false, but they served to besmirch her reputation.

8. QUAGMIRE (noun) – संकट की स्थिति
Pronunciation: kwag-mai-ur / kwog-mai-ur
Meaning: a difficult, complicated, or dangerous situation
Synonyms: muddle, mess, predicament, quandary
Usage: The country has sunk deeper into a quagmire of violence and lawlessness.

9. BLANDISHMENT (noun) – चोचला
Pronunciation: blan-dish-munt
Meaning: a flattering or pleasing statement or action used as a means of gently persuading someone to do something
Synonyms: flattery, cajolery, coaxing, wheedling
Antonyms: roughness, bluntness, unmannerliness
Usage: He gave us the travel brochure which is full of the blandishment.

10. CANNY (adjective) – चतुर
Pronunciation: kani
Meaning: having or showing shrewdness and good judgement, especially in money or business matters
Synonyms: shrewd, astute, sharp, sharp-witted, discerning, acute
Antonyms: foolish, reckless
Usage: He was canny enough to see that they were trying to trap him.
