Here some exceptional English words from the newspaper ‘The Hindu’ are given with their synonyms/antonyms and usage. Hopefully, this will help you improve your vocabulary.
 
1. MARKSMAN (noun) – निशानेबाज़
Pronunciation: maaks-mun
Meaning: a person skilled in shooting
Synonyms: sniper, sharpshooter, bersagliere
Usage: My father was an expert marksman.
 
2. KNICK-KNACK (noun) – सजावट की छोटी-मोटी चीज़ें
Pronunciation: nik-nak
Meaning: a small, decorative object, especially in a house
Synonyms: gewgaw, bibelot, trinket
Usage: The room was filled with tables, knick-knacks, and chairs.
 
3. DRENCH (verb) – सराबोर करना
Pronunciation: drench
Meaning: to make someone or something extremely wet
Synonyms: soak, saturate, wet through, permeate, drown, swamp, submerge       
Antonym: dry
Usage: I fell in the stream and was drenched.
 
4. UNABASHED (adjective) – बेशर्म, निर्लज
Pronunciation: un-ub-asht

Synonyms: devotion, religion, holiness, sanctity, saintliness; obedience, deference, duty, respect
Antonym: impiety, irreligion, immorality
Usage:

8. TURF (verb) – निकाल देना
Pronunciation: tuhf
Meaning: force someone to leave somewhere
Synonyms: remove, eject, expel, turn out, fling out, force out
Antonyms: welcome, invite
Usage: They were turfed off the bar for fighting.
 
9. BASH (verb, noun) – जोर से मारना; बड़ी मार
Pronunciation: bash
Meaning: strike hard and violently; a heavy blow
Synonyms: strike, hit, beat, thump, slap, smack, batter, pound; blow, rap, hit, knock, bang
Usage:
  • She bashed him with the book. (verb)
  • In that scene of the movie the hero gets a bash on his head. (noun)
10. HAMMER (verb) – घोर निंदा करना
Pronunciation: ham-uh
Meaning: attack or criticize forcefully
Synonyms: criticize, censure, attack, condemn, castigate, chastise
Antonym: praise
Usage: He got hammered for a mistake.
