1. Shakti-2019: Indo-French counter terrorism exercise to begin from Oct 31
  •  Indo-French joint exercise ‘Shakti 2019’ is scheduled to begin on October 31, 2019 in Rajasthan. The bilateral exercise will be conducted between the armies of both countries.
  • 'Shakti-2019' will be conducted at the Foreign Training Node at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan The exercise will be conducted from October 31 to November 13, 2019. 

2. 27 members of the European Union delegation arrived in India to visit Jammu and Kashmir

  • A delegation of 27 EU MPs will assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir after repealing the provisions of Article 370. These include people from political parties of countries like the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

3. Nirmala Sitharaman released a special coin on Paramahansa Yoganandas 125th birth anniversary:

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman released a special commemorative coin on Paramahansa Yogananda to mark his 125th Birth Anniversary on 29th October.
  •   He was recognized globally by the message of his that brought harmony.

About Paramahansa Yogananda:
1. Paramahansa Yogananda was born in 1893.
2. He is considered one of the preeminent spiritual figures of modern times.
3. He died in 1952.

4. Sadako Ogata: First female UN refugee chief dies at 92
Japanese academic and diplomat Sadako Ogata died at the age of 92. She was the first female to be appointed UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
About Sadako Ogata:
1.Ogata was born in Tokyo in 1927.
2.She became the first woman, the first Japanese person, and the first academic to be installed as the (UNHCR) in 1991.

5. PM Modi to attend Saudi's 'Davos in desert':

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the third edition of Saudi Arabia's high-profile annual financial conference on Tuesday.
  • He will also hold bilateral talks with top leadership of the Gulf Kingdom. The Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to Saudi and arrived in Riyadh late on Monday night.
  • He will deliver the keynote address under the title 'What's next for India?' at the Future Investment Initiative (FII), which is dubbed as 'Davos in the Desert'

6. Shakib Al Hasan suspended for two years by ICC for not reporting corrupt approach

  • Bangladesh captain and star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was on Tuesday handed a two-year suspension by the ICC for failing to report three corrupt approaches, including one at the IPL, by a suspected Indian bookie, ousting him from the upcoming tour of India.
  • Twelve months of that ban is a suspended sentence which will come into effect if Shakib fails to comply with the anti-corruption code of the world body.

7. India to host 1st ever day-night Test in Kolkata after Bangladesh agree to BCCI proposal

  • In a historic move, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) agreed to Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) proposal to host a day-night Test in the upcoming 2-Test series between the two teams. India will thus host their first ever pink-ball Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata from November 22.
  • Newly-appointed BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, who has been an ardent supporter of day-night Tests, made his intentions clear when he said Virat Kohli was agreeable to India playing day-night Tests.

8. President Kovind confers first National Corporate Social Responsibility Awards

  • President Ram Nath Kovind presented the first National Corporate Social Responsibility Awards (NCSRA) on 29 October 2019. The award instituted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. The NCSRA aims to recognize the companies for their outstanding contribution in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
  • They have focused on sustainable projects creating a long-term impact.

9. Rajnath Singh to represent India at SCO heads of state meeting:

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will represent India at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) heads of state meeting, which is to be held in Uzbekistan on 2 November.
  • Mr. Singh is to embark on a three-day visit to Uzbekistan from 1-3 November.
  • He will also hold a meeting with Uzbekistan's defence minister.

10. Arunachal Pradesh is hosting the 7th edition of Tawang festival

  • The 7th edition of the Tawang Festival kicked off on October 29, 2019 in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster had declared the festival open.
