Here some exceptional English words from the newspaper ‘The Hindu’ are given with their synonyms/antonyms and usage. Hopefully, this will help you improve your vocabulary.
 
1. SALLOW (adjective) – भूरा; हल्का पीला
Pronunciation: salo
Meaning: (of a person's face or complexion) of an unhealthy yellow or pale brown colour
Synonyms: yellowish, jaundiced, pallid, wan, pale, waxen, anaemic, bloodless, pasty, pasty-faced
Antonyms: rosy, glowing
Usage: Her face was sallow and lifeless.
 
2. MUNITION (noun, verb) – युद्ध-सामग्री
Pronunciation: myu-nish(u)n
Meaning: military weapons, ammunition, equipment, and stores; supply with munitions
Synonyms: armament, arsenal, bullets, explosives, missiles, shells, torpedos, weapons
Usage:
  • The soldiers had plenty of munition. (noun)
  • We have been munitioned and ready for the battle. (verb)
3. BRATTY (adjective) – बिगड़ा हुआ, बदतमीज़, अवज्ञाकारी
Pronunciation: brati
Meaning: spoilt, self-centered, and badly behaved

Pronunciation: eksi-jeesis
Meaning: detailed explanation or interpretation of a text, especially of scripture

5. SWINGEING (adjective) – जबर्दस्त

Meaning: severe or extreme in size, amount, or effect
Synonyms: serious, substantial, drastic, harsh, punishing, excessive, oppressive, draconian
Antonyms: minor, mild
Usage: The book mounted a swingeing attack on the economics of the day.

Usage:

8. FIENDISH (adjective) – दुष्ट; जटिल
Pronunciation: feen-dish
Meaning: extremely cruel or unpleasant; extremely awkward or complex
Synonyms: wicked, cruel, vicious, evil, nefarious; difficult, complex, complicated, intricate, involved, knotty
Usage:
  • Business competition can be fiendish at times.
  • It’s a fiendish problem to solve.
9. WEND (verb) – विचलन; इधर-उधर फिरना

Meaning: go in a specified direction, typically slowly or by an indirect route
Synonyms: meander, wander, potter, amble, stroll, saunter, drift, roam
Usage: We watched the train wend its way through the mountain pass.
 
10. WORTHWHILE (adjective) – सार्थक, उचित
Pronunciation: wuhth-wail
Meaning: of value or importance
Synonyms: valuable, useful, usable, beneficial, rewarding, advantageous
Antonyms: worthless, useless
Usage: Extra lighting would make a worthwhile contribution to road safety.
