1. QUAINT (adjective) – विलक्षण, मनोहर
Pronunciation: kweint
Meaning: attractively unusual or old-fashioned
Synonyms: picturesque, charming, sweet, attractive
Antonyms: modern, ugly, normal, ordinary
Usage: Grandma lives in a quaint old cottage.

2. WEASEL (noun) – चालाक आदमी
Pronunciation: wee-z(u)l
Meaning: a deceitful or treacherous person
Synonyms: scoundrel, wretch, rogue
Antonyms: noble, righteous, virtuous
Usage: He was a weasel.

3. INOCULATE (verb) – टीका लगाना
Pronunciation: inokyu-leit
Meaning: treat with a vaccine to produce immunity against a disease
Synonyms: immunize, vaccinate, inject
Usage: His dogs were inoculated against rabies.

4. COMBATANT (noun, adjective) – योद्धा; लड़नेवाला
Pronunciation: kom-but(u)nt / kum-but(u)nt
Meaning: a person or nation engaged in fighting during a war; a person engaged in conflict or competition with another
Synonyms: fighter, soldier; contender, antagonist, adversary, battler; warring, opposing, contending, belligerent
Antonyms: civilian; ally, non-participant; non-combatant
Usage:

  • In the long Russo-Swedish conflict, both combatants endured terrible sacrifices. (noun)
  • All the combatant armies went to war with machine guns. (adjective)

5. UNDULATE (verb) – लहराना
Pronunciation: un-dyu-leit
Meaning: move or go with a smooth up-and-down motion
Synonyms: surge, wave, billow, roll, swell, ripple
Usage: The surface of the liquid undulated gently.

6. PENANCE (noun) – प्रायश्चित
Pronunciation: penuns
Meaning: punishment inflicted on oneself as an outward expression of repentance for wrongdoing
Synonyms: atonement, expiation, self-punishment, self-mortification, self-abasement, reparation
Usage: He had done public penance for those hasty words.

7. EXPEND (verb) – खर्च करना
Pronunciation: ek-spend / ik-spend
Meaning: spend or use up (a resource such as money or energy)
Synonyms: spend, pay out, lay out, disburse
Antonyms: save, conserve
Usage: Don't expend all your time on such a useless job.

8. LISSOME (adjective) – पतली, कोमल, सुंदर
Pronunciation: lis(u)m
Meaning: (of a person or their body) thin, supple, and graceful
Synonyms: supple, lithe, limber, graceful, elegant, spry, flexible
Antonym: portly
Usage: During the show, girls with lissome bodies swung from one rope to another.

9. ADDUCE (verb) – प्रस्तुत करना
Pronunciation: ud-yoos
Meaning: cite as evidence
Synonyms: cite, quote, name, mention, instance, specify, identify
Usage: During the trial the defense attorney will adduce evidence to show the defendant’s innocence.

10. GLIB (adjective) – धाराप्रवाह पर प्रभावहीन
Pronunciation: glib
Meaning: (of words or a speaker) fluent but insincere and shallow
Synonyms: slick, pat, neat, plausible, silky
Antonyms: sincere, thoughtful, inarticulate
Usage: The spokesman's answer was just too glib.
