1. WRECK (noun, verb) – जहाज़ का मलबा

2. AMBIT (noun) – परिधि, सीमा
Pronunciation:
am-bit
Meaning: the range or limits of the influence of something; range or extent of something
Synonyms: scope, extent, bounds, confines, limits, range, reach
Usage: This case falls clearly within the ambit of the 1994 act.

3. ALACRITY (noun) – आतुरता, उत्साह, तत्परता
Pronunciation:
ulak-riti
Meaning: active and energetic; cheerful readiness
Synonyms: eagerness, willingness, readiness, enthusiasm, ardour, fervour
Antonyms: apathy
Usage: He accepted her offer with alacrity.

4. CANDOUR (noun) – स्पष्टवादिता, निष्कपटता
Pronunciation:
kan-der
Meaning: the quality of being open and honest
Synonyms: frankness, openness, honesty, sincerity, forthrightness, directness
Antonym: in-sin-seriti
Usage: She spoke with remarkable candour about her experiences.

5. HURTLE (verb) – जल्दबाज़ी
Pronunciation:
hur-t(u)l
Meaning: move or cause to move at high speed, typically in an uncontrolled manner
Synonyms: speed, rush, race, chase, bolt
Antonym: move slowly
Usage: His motorboat hurtled along the river.

6. INSIDIOUS (adjective) – छली
Pronunciation:

Meaning: proceeding in a gradual, subtle way, but with very harmful effects

Antonym: straightforward

7. UBIQUITOUS (adjective) – हर जगह मिलने वाला

Meaning: present, appearing, or found everywhere
Synonyms: omnipresent, everywhere, pervasive, universal
Antonyms: rare, scarce
Usage: Coffee shops are ubiquitous these days.

8. GROTESQUE (adjective) – विकृत, हास्यप्रद
Pronunciation:
gro-tesk
Meaning: comically or repulsively ugly or distorted; incongruous or inappropriate to a shocking degree
Synonyms: malformed, deformed, misshapen, misproportioned, distorted; outrageous, monstrous, shocking, astonishing
Antonyms: ordinary, normal
Usage: His face has a grotesque appearance.

9. SMOTHER (verb) – गला घोंटना, बुझाना
Pronunciation: smo-der
Meaning: kill (someone) by covering their nose and mouth so that they suffocate; extinguish (a fire) by covering it
Synonyms: suffocate, stifle, asphyxiate, choke, throttle, strangle, strangulate; extinguish, dampen, douse
Usage: We used a wet towel to smother the fire.

10. DELICATE (adjective) – नाज़ुक
Pronunciation:
deli-kut
Meaning: very fine in texture or structure; of intricate workmanship or quality; (of colour) subtle and subdued; easily broken or damaged; susceptible to illness or adverse conditions
Synonyms: fine, exquisite, intricate, dainty; subtle, soft, subdued, muted, pastel; fragile, breakable; sickly, unhealthy, valetudinarian, frail, feeble, weak
Antonyms: crude, coarse; bold, vibrant, lurid; strong, durable; healthy, strong, robust
Usage:

  • Her baby was swaddled in a delicate lace shawl.
  • Its large leaves often show a delicate purple tint.
  • Most of the items in the box are delicate and should be handled with care.
  • He was a weak and delicate child.
  • Tourists often disturb the delicate balance of nature on the island.
