1. awry (adjective) – विकृत, वक्र
Pronunciation: uraai
Meaning: away from the usual or expected course; out of the normal or correct position
Synonyms: amiss, wrong; askew, crooked, lopsided, uneven, asymmetrical
Antonyms: straight, symmetrical
Usage:

  • I got the impression that something was awry.
  • His hat was awry.

2. scrupulous (adjective) – नियमनिष्ठ, पूर्ण सावधान
Pronunciation: skroo-pyu-lus
Meaning: (of a person or process) careful, thorough, and extremely attentive to details; very concerned to avoid doing wrong
Synonyms: careful, meticulous, painstaking, thorough, assiduous; honest, honourable, upright, upstanding, high-minded, righteous
Antonyms: careless, slapdash, dishonest, unscrupulous
Usage: The organization will be scrupulous in maintaining the highest moral standards.

3. exhortation (noun) – प्रोत्साहन
Pronunciation: egzo-tei-sh(u)n
Meaning: an address or communication emphatically urging someone to do something
Synonyms: urging, encouragement, persuasion, pressure
Antonym: discouragement
Usage: Our teacher gives us exhortation to study hard.

4. coercion (noun) – बलप्रयोग, दबाव
Pronunciation: ko-er-sh(u)n
Meaning: the action of persuading someone to do something by using force or threat
Synonyms: force, compulsion, constraint, duress, oppression, enforcement
Antonym: persuasion
Usage: He claimed he had only acted under coercion.

5. aspersion (noun) - दोषारोपण
Pronunciation: us-per-sh(u)n
Meaning: an attack on the reputation or integrity of someone or something
Synonyms: vilification, denigration, defamation, criticism
Usage: I don't permit to cast aspersions on my friend.

6. mock (verb, noun, adjective) - उपहास करना, नकली, कृत्रिम
Pronunciation: mok
Meaning: tease or laugh at in a scornful or contemptuous manner; make a replica or imitation of something; not authentic or real, but without the intention to deceive; mock examinations
Synonyms: ridicule, deride; imitation, artificial
Antonyms: friendly, open, good-humoured; genuine
Usage:

  • The opposition party mocked the government’s decision. (verb)
  • What did you get in the mock? (noun)
  • I performed bad in the mock exam but passed the real exam. (adjective)

7. luminary (noun) - प्रेरणा स्त्रोत, अग्रणी
Pronunciation: loomi-nuri
Meaning: a person who inspires or influences others, especially one prominent in a particular sphere
Synonyms: inspiration, leader, expert, master
Antonyms: nobody, pleb
Usage: The luminary gazed earnestly at some papers before him.

8. portend (verb) - पहले से चेतावनी देना
Pronunciation: po-r-tend
Meaning: be a sign or warning that (something, especially something momentous or calamitous) is likely to happen
Synonyms: presage, augur, foreshadow, foretell, prophesy
Usage: What do these strange events portend?

9.  jaunty (adjective) - प्रफुल्ल
Pronunciation: jonti
Meaning: having or expressing a lively, cheerful, and self-confident manner
Synonyms: cheerful, cheery, happy, merry
Antonyms: depressed, serious, sedate
Usage: The jaunty music made everyone feel cheerful.
 

10. nonplussed (adjective) - भौचक
Pronunciation: non-plust
Meaning: so surprised and confused that one is unsure how to react
Synonyms: confused, bewildered, bemused, puzzled, perplexed
Usage: Even the experienced doctor was nonplussed when he saw the patient with a chainsaw in his skull.
