DDCA renames Feroz Shah Kotla as Arun Jaitley stadium

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) rechristened Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium as Arun Jaitley Stadium in a renaming ceremony which was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) renamed the Feroz Shah Kotla as Arun Jaitley stadium in memory of the late politician-cum-sports-administrator.In a glittering function, Home Minister Amit Shah digitally inaugurated the renamed Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in presence of late finance minister’s family.

DDCA also unveiled a new pavilion stand at the Feroz Shah Kotla after skipper Virat Kohli, who recently became the most successful India captain in Test cricket, surpassing MS Dhoni.Interestingly, the unveiling ceremony was held at the Weightlifting Hall of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The Indian cricket team led by skipper Virat Kohli was present at the ceremony along with Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, former Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, former skipper Kapil Dev and former player Chetan Chauhan.

Speaking on the renaming of the stadium, current DDCA president Rajat Sharma said, "What can be better to have it named after the man who got it rebuilt under his presidentship. It was Arun Jaitley's support and encouragement that players like Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra, Rishabh Pant and many others could make India proud."

The DDCA President, however, clarified that the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium will be renamed as Arun Jaitley Stadium but  the ground will continue to be called the Feroz Shah Kotla.

Virat Kohli pavilion

DDCA also unveiled a new pavilion stand at the Feroz Shah Kotla, which has been named after Indian skipper Virat Kohli in honour of his achievements. Virat Kohli recently became the most successful Indian captain in Test cricket, surpassing M S Dhoni.
