Synonyms: sedative, calmative, tranquillizer, narcotic, opiate, hypnotic
Antonyms: stimulant, refresher
Usage: Because of the medicine’s soporific properties, the doctor told me to only take it at bedtime.

Meaning: in a state or period of inactivity or dormancy
