RRB Technician Recruitment 2026: Exam Pattern & Syllabus
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has restructured the selection process for the Technician recruitment cycle. For the Grade I Signal and Grade III posts, the traditional multi-tiered examination framework has been streamlined: recruitment is now finalized based on a single-stage Computer Based Test (CBT), followed directly by Document Verification and Medical Examination.
Because there is no descriptive test, second-stage exam, or interview, your exact score in this single CBT determines your placement on the final merit panel.
RRB Technician 2026 Exam Pattern
The exam pattern is distinctly divided based on the structural hierarchy and educational qualification of the posts: Grade I Signal (Sub-Inspector level / Graduate entry) and Grade III (Matriculation + ITI entry).
Both exams enforce a strict negative marking of 1/3rd mark for every incorrect response.

Qualifying Criteria and Post-Selection Steps
To be considered for the final merit ranking, candidates must meet the minimum pass percentages specified below. However, securing these percentages only qualifies you; final selection depends entirely on your position relative to the zone-wise cut-offs.
  • UR (Unreserved) / EWS: 40%
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 30%
  • SC: 30%
  • ST: 25%
Final Pipeline
  • CBT Shortlisting: Candidates are ranked purely on normalized CBT scores.
  • Document Verification (DV): Candidates equal to the number of vacancies are called for verification.
  • Medical Examination: Shortlisted candidates undergo a rigorous medical assessment (B1 or C1 category, depending on the specific technician trade code) focusing heavily on visual acuity and color blindness parameters.
