It marks a momentous event in India's scientific and strategic journey — the successful nuclear tests conducted in Pokhran, Rajasthan, on 11 May 1998.
Historical Background
On 11 May 1998, India conducted five nuclear tests at the Indian Army’s Pokhran Test Range under Operation Shakti. This was a defining moment in India's history, declaring the country as a nuclear weapons state and showcasing its scientific prowess to the world. These tests were led by prominent scientists such as Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who later became the President of India.
In recognition of this achievement, then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared 11 May as National Technology Day.
