The National Sports Awards 2024 ceremony was held on January 17, 2025, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu honored India's top athletes and coaches for their exceptional performances.
Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2024 Recipients:
  • Manu Bhaker (Shooting): At 22, Manu became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in shooting, securing bronze in the women's 10m air pistol event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She also won bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, making her the first athlete from independent India to win two medals at a single Olympic Games. 
  • Gukesh D (Chess): At 18, Gukesh was crowned the 2024 World Chess Champion in Singapore, becoming the youngest world chess champion and only the second Indian after Viswanathan Anand to win the title. He was also part of the men's team that won the Chess Olympiad in Budapest. 
  • Harmanpreet Singh (Hockey): The captain of the Indian men's hockey team, Harmanpreet led the team to its second consecutive Olympic bronze at Paris 2024. Renowned as one of the top drag-flickers in modern hockey, he was the tournament's top scorer with 10 goals. 
  • Praveen Kumar (Para-Athletics): The 21-year-old para-athlete clinched gold in the men's high jump T64 class at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, setting an Asian record by clearing 2.08m. This marked his second Paralympic medal, having previously won silver at Tokyo 2020.
Arjuna Award 2024 Recipients:
A total of 34 athletes were honored with the Arjuna Award for their outstanding performances:
  • Athletics: Jyothi Yarraji, Annu Rani
  • Boxing: Nitu Ghanghas, Saweety Boora
  • Chess: Vantika Agrawal
  • Hockey: Salima Tete, Abhishek, Sanjay, Jarmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh
  • Para-Athletics: Rakesh Kumar, Preeti Pal, Jeevanji Deepthi, Ajeet Singh, Sachin Sarjerao Khilari, Dharambir, Pranav Soorma, Hokato Hotozhe Sema, Simran Sharma, Navdeep Singh
  • Para-Badminton: Nitesh Kumar, Thulasimathi Murugesan, Nithya Sre Sivan, Manisha Ramadass
  • Para-Judo: Kapil Parmar
  • Para-Shooting: Mona Agarwal, Rubina Francis
  • Shooting: Swapnil Kusale, Sarabjot Singh
  • Squash: Abhay Singh
  • Swimming: Sajan Prakash
  • Wrestling: Aman Sehrawat
Notably, 18 para-athletes were among the Arjuna Award recipients, highlighting India's commitment to recognizing diverse talents.
