National Science Day 2024

National science day is celebrated on 28th February each year across India to mark the discovery of great Indian scientist CV Raman for his Raman Effect in 1928. The day is celebrated in all schools, colleges, and universities of India by presenting the new discoveries, projects or models of their students. National and state science institutions demonstrate their latest researches.

Theme : 'Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat'

History: In 1986, NCSTC (National Council for Science and Technology Communication) asked GOI to recognize the 28th February as “National science day” to aware the citizens about the importance of Science in their daily life use. GOI accepted their proposal and declared the 28th February as “National science day”. So the first “National science day” was celebrated on February 28, 1987.

Important facts:

  • CV Raman was born on 7th November 1888 in Thiruvanaikaval, Tiruchirappalli and was died on 21 November 1970, Bengaluru.
  • CV Raman was awarded Nobel Prize in 1930 for his discovery.
  • CV Raman was also awarded the highest civilian award from his home country, the Bharat Ratna, in 1954,
  • He was also awarded Matteucci Medal, Hughes Medal, Lenin Peace Prize, Franklin Medal etc.
