A top level reshuffle in the Indian Army will soon take place as the government has cleared the appointment of Lieutenant General MM Naravane as the next vice-chief of the Army staff, sources said.

Lt Gen Narawane is currently heading the Eastern Command of the Army in Kolkata.
- Lt.Gen Naravane is headed to be the senior-most officer in the force after Army chief General Bipin Rawat retires on December 30.
- Under Lt Gen Naravane’s leadership, the Indian Army carried out joint operations with the Myanmar Army targeting insurgent groups active in the Northeast.
- He will be replaced by Lt Gen Anil Chauhan, who is currently posted as Director General of military operations.
