
1. FDA approved first Dengue vaccine named Dengvaxia.
- The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States approved first vaccine named Dengvaxia for the prevention of dengue disease but with certain conditions that use dengue vaccine only in people who have a previous history of the disease.
- The vaccine is a live, attenuated dengue virus. Under the vaccination, 3 doses will be provided to the patient and after 1st dose, there will be a difference of 6 months between 1st dose and 2nd dose and also a difference of 6 months between 2nd dose and 3rd dose.
2 . India celebrates National Technology Day on 11th May.
- National Technology Day is observed every year on the 11th of May in India. It is a reminder of the anniversary of Shakti. The aim of the celebration is to highlight the achievements of the scientists and engineers of India in the field of science and technology.
- It also helps to encourage students towards science and technology field.
3.UNEP Report states that India & China tops a list of nations for illegal sand mining.
- According to the recent report released by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) titled ‘Sand and Sustainability: finding new solutions for environmental governance of global sand resources‘, India and China top a list of nations where illegal sand mining has become a key environmental issue.
- The report brings to light that sand and gravel are the 2nd largest natural resources that are extracted but are the least regulated. The first largest being water.
- UNEP declares it as one of the major sustainability challenges of the country in the 21st century.
4. KRCL signs contract agreement with Nepal’s Department of Railways to supply two 1600 HP DEMU train sets to the latter.
- According to the agreement, KRCL will supply two 1600 HP DEMU train sets to Nepal’s Department of Railways.
- The trains were manufactured by the Integrated Coach Factory in Chennai.
- The 1600 HP DEMU trains will run between Jayanagar in India and Kurtha in Nepal, the 34 km long stretch.
5. Igor Stimac set to be appointed Indian football team coach.
- All India Football Federation (AIFF) interviewed Stimac, Albert Roca, Hakan Ericson and Lee for the post,but Stimac emerged as the number one choice.
- In his 14 year career span, Stimac coached the Croatian national team between 2012 and 2013.
- He has served with clubs like Cibalia, Hajduk Split,NK Zagreb and Zadar, Iranian club Sepahan and Qatari club Al-Shahania.
6.Subhash Chand to be the next Ambassador of India to the State of Eritrea.
- On May 10, 2019, the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India announced the appointment of Shri Subhash Chand as the next Ambassador of India to the State of Eritrea.
- He is presently serving as the Deputy High Commissioner in the High Commission of India, Abuja.
- He will succeed Ravindra Prasad Jaiswal.
7. India receives its first Apache Guardian attack helicopter in Boeing’s production facility in Mesa, Arizona US.
- The Indian Air Force legally received its 1st Apache Guardian attack helicopter AH-64E (I) during a ceremony at the Boeing production facility in Mesa, Arizona, US (United States).
- This first attack helicopter in India’s defence arsenal was received by Air Marshal AS Butola, IAF.
8. Sana Mir Becomes Highest Wicket-Taking Spinner In ODI.
- Pakistan off-spinner Sana Mir has become the most successful women's ODI spinner in history after she took her 147th wicket, highest ever by any spinner in One-day International (ODI) cricket.
- Currently, Mir is placed on the third position in the ICC's ODI bowling ranking, which is topped by Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami.
9. International Nurses Day 2019 observed on May 12.
- On 12th May 2019, The International Nurses Day was celebrated globally to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale also known as ‘The Lady with the Lamp’, was famous as manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean War.
- The Florence Nightingale Medal is the highest international distinction a nurse can achieve.
