1. IAF aircraft with 13 people on board goes missing

  • The disappearance of an Indian Air Force AN-32 transport aircraft with 13 people onboard in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Siang district  bears an uncanny resemblance to the 2009 crash of another AN-32 carrying an equal number of passengers in the same region.
  • IAF AN-32 had crashed over Rinchi Hill near Heyo Village (also located near Tato) in West Siang district, killing 13 personnel. The plane’s wreckage was found about 30 km away from the Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground (ALG). It had taken off from the ALG and was headed towards Mohanbari Air Force Station in Assam, but disappeared within minutes of becoming airborne.

2. MP Cabinet passes resolution to increase reservation for OBCs to 27%

  • The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on passed a resolution to increase reservation quota for Other Backward Classes (OBC) from existing 14 per cent to 27 per cent.
  • The matter will now be taken up in the monsoon session of the state Assembly.
  • The Cabinet has also increased by three per cent the dearness allowance for employees and pensioners. It will cost the state exchequer Rs 1,647 crore and will benefit around seven lakh employees.

3. Ajit Doval reappointed National Security Advisor with Cabinet rank

  • The government reappointed retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Ajit Doval as National Security Adviser, according him a Cabinet rank.
  • He becomes the first NSA to get Cabinet status in the table of precedence.
  • In his previous stint as an NSA, he had the stature of a Minister of State (MoS).
  • According to one official, the decision was taken since Mr. Doval leads strategic dialogues with many countries and a Cabinet rank will facilitate his interactions with the most senior officials. “A case in point is China, where there has been a mismatch between him and the Special Representative for boundary talks, who is normally a State councillor of Cabinet rank. China had raised discomfort about the mismatch,” the official said.

4. Tripura to host 10th National Science Film Festival of India in 2020

  • The film festival would include films produced by UNICEF, UNESCO and filmmakers from different countries. It will also include entries from Tripura and other states.
  • In an effort to raise awareness about science and environment through films, the 10th National Science Film Festival of India (NSFFI) will be organised in Tripura on January and February 2020, Director of Vigyan Prasar Nakul Parashar said today.

5. Yoga Mahotsava was organized in New Delhi

  • A Two-day Yoga Mahotsava, a Curtain Raiser for International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2019 was organized in New Delhi. It was inaugurated by the Vice-Chairman, NITI AYOG Rajeev Kumar.
  • The Yoga Mahotsav-2019 was organized by Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) under Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH). This is to sensitize the masses for the celebration of IDY 2019.
  • On this occasion Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha announced two Applications related to International Day of Yoga 2019.

(a) Yoga Locator which is specially designed for IDY to record and show Yoga events across the world
(b) Bhuvan App which provides geo time location and documentation during IDY 2019. Bhuvan App has been designed in collaboration with ISRO.

6. Indian Army commissioned air quality monitor at Fort William as a part of 'Go Green' initiative

  • Go Green' initiative,a "Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (CAAQMS)" at Fort William Military Station.
  • Lt Gen M M Naravane, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, commissioned the system, which monitors air pollution on a real time basis.
  • The CAAQMS at the Eastern Command headquarters will measure air pollution including particulate matter throughout the year.
  • It also displays wind speed, direction, ambient temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, barometric pressure and rain gauge.
  • The data can be remotely monitored on internet and collated into various desired formats.

7. ICA issues first UAE Permanent Residency 'Golden Card' in Abu Dhabi

  • UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) has issued the first Golden Residence Permit in Abu Dhabi, as part of the Investors Permanent Residence System aimed to attract investors, entrepreneurs and qualified individuals who meet its criteria.
  • Brigadier Saeed Salem Al Shamsi, Executive Director of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi, awarded the first permit to investor Yousuf Ali, Board Member of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI) and Chairman of the Lulu International Group.
