1. Praggnanandhaa Becomes First Indian to Win Grand Chess Tour 2026

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, popularly known as Praggnanandhaa, is an Indian chess Grandmaster who was born on 10 August 2005 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

He defeated Fabiano Caruana of the USA by 15–13 in the 2026 GCT Finals.

The final was held at the Saint Louis Chess Club, St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
2. Andhra Pradesh Approves Quantum and AI University Campus

The Andhra Pradesh Government approved the establishment of India's first dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence University campus in Amaravati.

The initiative is being developed by NIELIT — National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology functions under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

The approval was given under the leadership of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at a Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) meeting.

Hindalco Industries Limited commissioned India's first Superfine PPT ATHmanufacturing plant is located at Belagavi, Karnataka.

The plant is a greenfield manufacturing facility.

PPT ATH (Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate) is a halogen-free flame-retardant material.
5. LIC Housing Finance Appoints Sandeep Kumar as New MD & CEO

He succeeds Tribhuwan Adhikari, who retired upon superannuation.

His tenure can extend up to five years, subject to applicable conditions and shareholder approval.

6. India Signs Deal with US to Procure Javelin Anti-Tank Guided Missile Systems

India and the United States signed an agreement for the procurement of the Javelin Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) system for the Indian Army.

The Javelin is a medium-range, man-portable, shoulder-launched, fire-and-forget anti-tank weapon.

The Javelin Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) is jointly developed and manufactured by Lockheed Martin and RTX (Raytheon) of the United States.

8. Indian Navy Gets First Multipurpose Vessel — Samarthak

The vessel was designed and built by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at its Kattupalli Shipyard in Tamil Nadu.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is constructing two Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPVs)—INS Samarthak and INS Utkarsh—for the Indian Navy under the same project.

The vessel was named Samarthak, meaning “Supporter” or “The Proponent”.
