1. India breaks World record with fastest 50,100 and 200 in Test Cricket History
India set a new record for the fastest team fifty in Test cricket, reaching the milestone in just three overs on day four of the second Test against Bangladesh, surpassing England’s previous record. Rohit Sharma was eventually bowled by Mehidy Hasan Miraz after scoring 23 off 11 balls. Earlier in July, England broke a 30-year-old record by reaching 50 runs in 4.2 overs against the West Indies at Trent Bridge.

2.India won seven medals at the Junior World Wushu Championships 2024
The Indian team won seven medals at the Junior World Wushu Championship in Brunei, claiming two gold, one silver and four bronze medals. Aryan secured gold in the Boys' Junior 48 kg category, defeating China's Gong Huanran, while Shaurya earned gold in the Boys' 48kg (children) category by beating Iran's Alireza Zamani.

3. Indian Pair Clinches Bronze in ISSF Junior World Championship
At the ISSF Junior World Championship in Lima, Peru, the Indian duo of Gautami Bhanot and Ajay Malik secured a Bronze medal by defeating Croatia 17-9 in the Air Rifle mixed event. China claimed the Gold in this event, overcoming France. In the Air Pistol mixed event, India earned another Bronze as Lakshita and Pramod triumphed over Kanishka Dagar and Mukesh Nellavani 16-8. With these victories, India maintained its lead in the championship, boasting a total of five medals—two Gold and three Bronze.

4. Centre of Excellence Inaugurated by BCCI in Bengalore
The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has inaugurated state-of-the-art facilities known as the Centre of Excellence on the outskirts of Bengaluru, also referred to as the New National Cricket Academy to enhance cricketing infrastructure. This world-class facility, envisioned by Board Secretary Jay Shah, aims to nurture the future of cricket.

  • The Centre of Excellence features 45 outdoor net pitches for practice, organized into nine clusters.
  • Pitches include Mumbai red soil, Mandya soil, Kalahandi black cotton soil, and concrete, all separated by safety nets imported from the UK.

  • It includes one of the largest dressing rooms, nearly 3,000 square feet, equipped with a jacuzzi, lounge, massage room, kit room, and restrooms.

5. Udhayanidhi Stalin Took Oath as Deputy CM of Tamil Nadu
Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, has been sworn in as the new Deputy Chief Minister following a cabinet reshuffle that included several changes in membership. Udhayanidhi made his debut as a producer with the film Kuruvi (2008), which featured Vijay and Trisha, and he also produced two films directed by K. S. Ravikumar: Aadhavan (2009) and Manmadhan Ambu (2010).

6. Shah Rukh Khan Wins IIFA 2024 'Best Actor'
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan bagged the trophy of Best Actor in a Leading Role for his action-packed performance in 'Jawan' at IIFA 2024. His movie also starred Deepika Padukone and Vijay Sethupathi.

7. Veteran Actor Mithun Chakraborty to be honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Award
Veteran Bollywood actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has been selected for India’s most prestigious cinematic honor, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the news on X earlier today, praising Mithun Da’s extraordinary career, which has served as an inspiration to generations.

8. Justice Manmohan sworn in as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court
Justice Manmohan took the Oath of Office as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court in the capital, administered by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, with the new Chief Minister of Delhi also present at the ceremony. Chief Justice Manmohan is set to retire on December 16, 2024, and will serve until the end of his tenure. High Court judges have security of tenure until the age of retirement, which is 62 years.

9. M V Shreyams Kumar elected as INS president
M.V. Shreyams Kumar has been elected as the president of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) during its 85th annual general meeting, which was held via video conferencing. He succeeds Rakesh Sharma of the Aaj Samaj newspaper.

10. Renowned Poet Keki N. Daruwala passed away
Keki N. Daruwala, a former IPS officer and celebrated poet who inspired many young writers, passed away at the age of 87 in New Delhi. He was also a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award. He joined the police force in 1958, rising through the ranks to become a special assistant on international affairs to former Prime Minister Charan Singh in 1979.

  • Keki N. Daruwalla published his first poetry volume in 1970, followed by Apparition in April (1971), Crossing of Rivers (1976), and The Keeper of the Dead (1982), which won him the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984.
  • He is Known for his down-to-earth nature and was regarded as a personal friend by many writers and never acted like a literary giant.
  • He had a perspective that was both global and civilizational, characterized by his kindness, integrity, and philosophical vision.
  • In 2015, following the murder of writer MM Kalburgi, he returned his Sahitya Akademi Award in solidarity with other writers.
