1.PM Modi laid Foundation stone for Sikkim’s First Railway Station in Rangpo
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi ceremonially laid the foundation stone for Sikkim’s inaugural railway station in Rangpo, marking a significant moment in the state’s history. The station’s design, deeply rooted in local culture, heritage, and architecture, reflects Sikkim’s rich traditions and the majestic Himalayan landscape.
  • The inauguration of the Rangpo railway station is part of a larger initiative to enhance rail infrastructure nationwide. With over 2,000 projects valued at approximately Rs 41,000 crore, this ambitious endeavor aims to revolutionize transportation networks, fostering connectivity and economic development.

2.’Savera’ program for early detection ,prevention of breast cancer launched in Haryana
  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the “Savera” program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at early detection and prevention of breast cancer in women. Developed in collaboration with the Medanta Foundation and the Health Department, Savera leverages the unique ability of visually impaired women to conduct breast cancer screenings.
  • The program capitalizes on the naturally heightened tactile sensitivity possessed by visually impaired individuals. As highlighted by CM Khattar, “they can detect breast cancer up to half a centimeter, whereas a normal doctor can detect it up to one centimeter, after examination.”

3. Uttar Pradesh To set Up its first Turtle conservation reserve in the Sarju river
  • The Forest Department in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, in collaboration with the Turtle Survival Alliance Foundation India, is initiating a conservation effort. This endeavor aims to establish a turtle conservation reserve along the Sarju river, a tributary of the Ghaghra river. Gonda district is known for its turtle diversity, making it an ideal location for such a conservation effort.
  • A proposal for the project has been forwarded, drawing from six years of monitoring various turtle species and studying the surrounding flora and fauna. The proposed reserve will encompass a 2-kilometer stretch of the Sarju river, teeming with a diverse array of plant species, avifauna, fishes, and water snakes.

4. National Science Day 2024 observed on  February 28
  • Every year, national science day is celebrated on February 28 all over India. It is celebrated every year to mark the discovery of the “Raman effect”. The Raman effect was discovered by the Indian scientist Sir C.V. Raman.
  • In 1928, when Raman discovered his laboratory at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) in Kolkata, 32 research scholars were working under his guidance and Sukumar was one among them.
5.India Stops Water Flow To Pakistan As Shahpur Kandi Barrage is Complete
  • The Shahpur-Kandi barrage, which is crucial for irrigation and hydropower generation, has faced numerous challenges over the past three decades. The foundation stone for the Shahpur Kandi Barrage Project was laid by former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao in 1995.
  • The completion of the project will not only irrigate land, but also generate about 206 MW of electricity besides attracting tourists to the site. Punjab would be the major beneficiary of the power generated from this project.
6. Indian Squash player Abhay Singh wins Goodfellow Classic squash in Toronto
  • Asian Games medallist Abhay Singh moved into the final of the Goodfellow Classic squash in Toronto with a comfortable 3-1 win over Abdelrahman Abdelkhalek. The top-seeded Indian beat the Egyptian 11-5, 6-11, 11-7, 11-6 in 54 minutes in the semifinal of the USD 9000 event to advance to his second PSA Challenger Tour final in as many months after winning the JSW Willingdon event in Mumbai.
  • Singh scored the opening game 11-7 to draw first blood in the final. The Indian was then tested by the Welshman in the next two games but managed to hang tough to capture both games 11-9 to claim his second title of 2024 and his 9th PSA title.
7. Indian bags 14 medals, including 9 Golds at Archery Asia Cup 2024 in Baghdad,Iraq
  • India finished the Archery Asia Cup 2024 with 14 medals, including nine golds, four silvers and one bronze in Baghdad, Iraq. In the women’s individual recurve category, three-time Olympian Deepika Kumari won the gold medal by defeating compatriot Simranjeet Kaur 6-2. Meanwhile, in an all-Indian final, Dhiraj Bommadevara beat Tarundeep Rai 7-3 to win the men’s recurve archery title.
  • India swept the top podiums in all the individual events, clinching top positions in both the men’s and women’s compound events. Parneet Kaur beat Iran’s Fatemeh Hemmati 138-135 for the women’s gold medal match while Prathamesh Jawkar beat team-mate Kushal Dalal 146-144 for the men’s title.

8.South Asia’s largest ammunition facility in Kanpur
  • In a boost to India's defence capabilities, the country's leading private sector defence manufacturer Adani Defence & Aerospace launched two facilities dedicated to the production of ammunition and missiles in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
  • The mega facilities, touted as South Asia's largest, were inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Chief of Army Staff Gen Manoj Pande, Lt Gen N. S. Raja Subramani in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Defence and Uttar Pradesh government.
9.’Captain Marvel’ actor Kenneth Mitchell dies at 49
  • Canadian actor Kenneth Mitchell has passed away at the age of 49 due to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a nervous system disease. He played Joseph Danvers in Captain Marvel.
  • “With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend to many,” according to a statement made from the actor's verified Instagram account.
