1. Karnam Malleswari made first Vice-Chancellor of Delhi Sports University
  • Former Padma Shri-winning Indian weightlifter, Karnam Malleshwari has been appointed as the first vice-chancellor of Delhi Sports University.
  • She is currently working as Chief General Manager in the FCI.
  • She is the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics.
  • She won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
  • She has also been awarded Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (1995), Arjuna Award (1994) and Padma Shri (1999).
2. World Bank provides USD 191 million credit to Bangladesh to set up South Asian Education portal
  • Bangladesh will establish a South Asian Higher Education portal to facilitate virtual mobility of students with the help of financing received from the World Bank under its Higher Education Acceleration Transformation Project.
  • The World Bank approved a credit of USD 191 million under the project for Bangladesh on Thursday. The project will allow National Research and Education networks (NRENs) and provide expanded access and connectivity for students. It will help upgrade the Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) and offer a subsidized connectivity package to students and the participating universities in BdREN.
  • The project will build a network of women’s universities and institutions, which will be initially anchored at the Asian University of Women in Chattogram, Bangladesh.

3. NITI Aayog launches National Consultation on Prevention of Obesity
  • NITI Aayog has organised ‘National Consultation on Prevention of Maternal, Adolescent and Childhood Obesity’.
  • The consultation was organized in view of rising incidents of obesity in children and women over the past decade.
  • Global experts, representatives from UN bodies, central ministries and national research institutions presented evidence regarding increasing prevalence of obesity and best practices for obesity reduction.

4. Government launches e-filing portal of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, itat
  • Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has formally launched e-filing portal of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), ‘itat e-dwar'.
  • This newly developed e-Filing Portal would enable the parties to file their Appeals, Miscellaneous Applications, documents, paper books, etc. electronically.
  • It will enhance the accessibility, accountability and transparency in the day to day working of the ITAT.
  • It will facilitate economization of the use of paper and  rationalization of cases.
5. R K Sabharwal honoured Mongolia’s ‘The Order of Polar Star'
  • RK Sabharwal has been honoured with the highest civilian award of Mongolia’s ‘The Order of Polar Star’ to recognize the outstanding contribution made by him towards the establishment of first ever oil Refinery in Mongolia.
  • Order of Polar Star: It is the most desirable and prestigious state award, which is highly valuable and distinguished and recognises individuals who have made invaluable contribution with their outstanding hard work to the prosperity of Mongolia.
6. Odisha emerges as only state in India to have all 3 species of crocodiles
  • Odisha has emerged as the only state in India to have all three species of crocodiles.
  • Crocodiles: They are critically endangered species. The species has been subjected to incessant killings at the hands of humans, for fulfilling their commercial needs.
  • There are three popularly known species of crocodiles, found in India, namely:
  • The Mugger Crocodile (Crocodylus palustris).
  • The Gharial (Gavialis gangeticus).
  • The Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus).

7. Andhra Pradesh inaugurates International Education e-Conference
  • Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan has virtually inaugurated two-day International Education e-Conference on the theme of ‘Holistic Education for Excellence in Life’.
  • It has been organised by Prajapita Brahma Kumari Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya.
  • Children will be equipped with intellectual, mental, physical, emotional and spiritual capabilities to face the demands and challenges of everyday life and real-world education.

8. Odisha partners with UN WFP to empower, support women through self-help groups
  • The Odisha government and United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) have joined hands to improve household food and nutritional security by strengthening livelihood initiatives and reaching out to thousands of state-supported Women’s Self-Help Groups (WSHGs).
  • An agreement was signed on Tuesday between Bishow Parajuli and Sujata R Karthikeyan, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of Mission Shakti, Odisha government at a virtual ceremony.
9. Denmark signs framework agreem
  • Denmark signed the framework agreement of the International Solar Alliance Framework Agreement (ISA FA) and Instrument of Ratification with India, informed Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.
  • Meanwhile, Denmark becomes first country to ratify International Solar Alliance Framework Agreement (ISA FA) after amendments to it entered into force on January 8.
  • Kingdom of Denmark becomes 1st country to ratify International Solar Alliance Framework Agreement (ISA FA) after amendments to it entered into force on 8 January this year, opening its Membership to all Member States of the United Nations.

10. BRICS nations agree on science and technology innovation cooperation
  • BRICS Nations have unanimously agreed on an innovation co-operation at the 11th BRICS S&T Steering Committee Meeting.Hosted by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), GoI, the meeting was led from the Indian side by Sanjeev Kumar Varshney, Advisor & Head International Cooperation. This meeting was hosted as a part of the series of sectoral events including Minister level meeting and BRICS Summit.
  • The proposal put forward by India would be considered at the BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Entrepreneurship (STIEP) working group for elaborating the action plan.
  • The concept note and Action Plan for BRICS Innovation Cooperation 2021-2024 was discussed during the meeting organized on June 22, 2021 to review the implementation of BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation(STI) Calendar of Activities.
