1. India to celebrate National Space Day on August 23 to mark Chandrayaan-3’s touchdown
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that August 23 will be
celebrated as National Space Day to mark Chandrayaan-3's landing on the Moon. PM Modi also announced that the touchdown spot of the Vikram lander on the lunar surface would from now onwards be known as the 'Shivshakti' point while the Chandrayaan-2 Lunar landing point will be called the 'Tiranga' point. - A visibly emotional Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed scientists at the Indian Space Research organisation's command centre in Bengaluru, who were involved in the Chandrayaan-3 mission and lauded them for their efforts.

2. Tamil Nadu Government Begins Breakfast Scheme in 31 thousand Schools
- Tamil Nadu Government began the breakfast Scheme in 31
thousand schools. More than 17 lakh students studying first to fifth standard will benefit from it. State Chief Minister K.Stalin inaugurated the program at a Panchayat School in Thirukkuvalai, Nagapattinam district. - The scheme was initially launched to provide breakfast to over one lakh students in 1545 Government primary schools but now it has been extended to all the State Government schools. Tamil nadu already had the noon meal scheme since 1956. The scope of the scheme is to increase the enrollment of children in Government schools. After the introduction of the breakfast scheme last year, attendance improved by 40 percent.The breakfast will be provided on all school days and the menu has 13 types of food items in it.

3. Union Government to launch Tele-Law – 2.0 Integrates Tele-Law and Nyaya Bandhu App in New Delhi
- Union Government will launch Tele-Law – 2.0 which Integrates Tele-
Law and Nyaya Bandhu App to ensure access to Justice in New Delhi. The Law and Justice Ministry said this will enable the common citizen to access legal advice, legal assistance and legal representation through a single registration and single gateway of Tele-Law. - The event marks the achievement of providing 50 lakh legal advice to the beneficiaries. During the programme, the frontline functionaries who are the grassroots soldiers and ensure the delivery of legal services at its doorstep will be felicitated.

4. PM Modi begins Greece visit by paying tribute to Tomb of unknown soldier
- After his arrival at the ancient city, Prime Minister Modi laid a wreat
h at the 'Tomb of the Unknown Soldier' in Athens. Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his engagements in Greece by paying tribute to the Tomb of unknown soldiers in Athens. - Modi arrived in the Greek capital from South Africa where he attended the 15th BRICS Summit and held bilateral meetings with several world leaders to further cement India's relations with those countries. He was received by Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis at the airport. After his arrival at the ancient city, Prime Minister Modi laid a wreath at the 'Tomb of the Unknown Soldier' in Athens.

5. Reliance Retail launches 'Yousta' fashion stores; first outlet in Hyderabad, all products below Rs 999
- The retail arm of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) on August 24
announced the launch of youth-focused fashion retail format 'Yousta', with its first outlet opened in Hyderabad. - All the products at Yousta store are priced below Rs 999 and a majority of them are priced below Rs 499. Yousta is a young and dynamic brand that underlines a way of life, which will grow and evolve with the youth of this country. The team will continuously work with India’s younger generation to understand their evolving fashion needs. The first Yousta store, in Hyderabad, is located in the city's Sarath City Mall.

6. Zimbabwe's Mnangagwa re-elected president, opposition rejects result
- Zimbabwe’s elections commission incumbent Emmerson
Mnangagwa had won this week’s presidential election with roughly 53% of the vote, but the opposition and analysts immediately questioned the result. - Emmerson Mnangagwa’s main challenger, Nelson Chamisa, secured 44% of the presidential vote, according to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. Mr. Mnangagwa, who took over from longtime leader Robert Mugabe after a 2017 army coup, was widely expected to secure re-election for a second term as analysts said the contest was heavily skewed in favour of the ZANU-PF ruling party, which has been in power for more than four decades.

7. Deendayal Port, DP World sign agreement for construction of mega-container terminal
- Deendayal Port Authority and DP World have signed a concession
agreement in the presence of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi. The project involves the construction of a mega-container terminal at Tuna-Tekra near the existing Deendayal Port, at a cost of over 4,243 crores rupees through a Public Private Partnership. - Once completed the terminal will have an annual capacity of 2.19 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and will include a 1,100 metre berth capable of handling next-generation vessels carrying more than 18,000 TEUs. This concession agreement is a part of Mr Sonowal's target of identifying investment opportunities of more than 10 lakh crore rupees in Indian Maritime Sector ahead of the Global Maritime Summit 2023.

8. Pakistan reclaim No. 1 ODI ranking spot after Afghanistan whitewash
- The 3-0 series win saw Pakistan pip Australia for the No. 1 spot in
the ICC Men's ODI Rankings. Heading into the Afghanistan series, Pakistan were at the second spot with 115.8 rating points, behind top-ranked Australia (118). Pakistan now sit atop with 118.48 rating point, going past Australia only marginally in the rankings chart. - While Pakistan will be entering the Asia Cup as the No. 1 ranked side, they face stiff competition from India, who stand third in the table with 113 rating points and have the ability to dethrone their arch-rivals.

Anecdotes, events, and matches are described from the perspective of an insider who has seen the game and the players up close for over three decades. - An experienced cricket administrator, Mr. Mathur was the manager of the India team on the historic tour of South Africa in 1992. Later, he was part of PILCOM, the organising committee for the 1996 Cricket World Cup, also Chief Operating Officer of the Delhi Daredevils and General Manager of BCCI.

10. Veteran Marathi actress Seema Deo passes away
- Veteran actor Seema Deo, remembered for her roles in Anand and
Kora Kagaz, passes in Mumbai due to age-related ailments, she was 81. Seema Deo acted in nearly 90 Hindi and Marathi movies in a career spanning over six decades from the black-and-white to the colour era of the Indian film industry. - She is hugely remembered for her major role in the musical blockbuster ‘Anand’, along with her husband Ramesh, and Amitabh Bachchan among other actors. Some of her renowned Marathi films are ‘Jagachya Pathivar’, ‘Vardakshina’, among many others. She was last seen in ‘Jivan Sandhya’ released in 2021.
