1. Mahesh Dixit to Succeed Tapan Kumar Deka as Intelligence Bureau Chief

A High-Profile Succession: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, officially cleared Mahesh Dixit for a fixed two-year tenure starting June 30, 2026. He will succeed Tapan Kumar Deka, a highly regarded 1988-batch officer who became the longest-serving IB chief since 2005 after receiving two consecutive one-year extensions.

Dixit is a 1993-batch IPS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre. Uniquely, he is a qualified medical doctor who transitioned into law enforcement. Before this elevation, he was already serving as the Special Director (the second-highest post in the agency) and brings nearly three decades of dedicated internal intelligence experience to the top job.
