1. Viswanathan Anand Takes Charge as FIDE Interim President

Viswanathan Anand assumed charge as Interim President of FIDE after Arkady Dvorkovich suspended his duties following EU and Swiss sanctions.

Anand is a five-time World Chess Champion and India's first Grandmaster (1988).

FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs) is the global governing body for chess; established on 20 July 1924 with headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
2. India Launches First Domestic Natural Gas Futures

India will launch its first Domestic Natural Gas Futures Contract on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) with SEBI approval.

The contract will trade under the symbol NATGASIND, linked to the Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) Dahej Hub.

The contract size is 250 mmBtu and it will be cash settled through NSE Clearing Ltd.
3. India's Rice Fields Among World's Top Methane Hotspots

India's rice fields are among the world's largest methane emission hotspots, making agriculture a major source of greenhouse gas emissions.

Methane (CH₄) is the second-most important greenhouse gas after carbon dioxide and has a much higher warming potential over the short term.

Rice cultivation emits methane because waterlogged (anaerobic) paddy fields promote methane-producing microorganisms.
4. US Signs Landmark Nuclear Deal with Saudi Arabia

The United States and Saudi Arabia signed a 30-year Civilian Nuclear Cooperation Agreement to expand peaceful nuclear energy cooperation.

The agreement is based on Section 123 of the US Atomic Energy Act, 1954 (known as a 123 Agreement) and includes a Bilateral Safeguards Agreement.

The agreement requires US Congress approval; India's 123 Agreement was approved on 1 October 2008, with civilian facilities placed under IAEA safeguards.
5. Senegal's President Elected Chairman of ECOWAS

Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of Senegal, was elected Chairman of ECOWAS, succeeding Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone.

ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) was established on 28 May 1975 under the Treaty of Lagos.

Headquarters: Abuja, Nigeria; current membership stands at 12 countries after the withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
6. DBS Named World's Best Corporate Bank

DBS (Development Bank of Singapore)was named the World's Best Corporate Bank by Global Finance Magazine.

DBS became the first Southeast Asian bank since 2005 to receive the award and has been recognised as Asia's Safest Bank for 17 consecutive years.

Other winners include Santander (World's Best Bank) and State Bank of India (World's Best Consumer Bank).
7. PNB & AP Establish India's First Bank-Led Quantum Finance Hub

Punjab National Bank (PNB) and the Government of Andhra Pradesh signed an MoU to establish India's first Bank-led Quantum Finance Hubat Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV).

It will focus on banking innovation, cybersecurity, research, startup incubation, and skill development.

PNB, established on 19 May 1894, became the first bank to partner with a state government for such an initiative; Headquarters: Dwarka, New Delhi; MD & CEO: Ashok Chandra.
8. DRDO Successfully Conducts Maiden Flight Test of 'Kusha'

DRDO successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the 'Kusha' Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LR-SAM) from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha.

The indigenous air defence system can intercept fighter aircraft, stealth aircraft, UAVs, cruise missiles, precision-guided munitions (PGMs), and selected ballistic missiles.

The Kusha missile family includes M1 (150 km), M2 (250 km), and M3 (350–400 km) variants for layered air defence. DRDO was established in 1958, functions under the Ministry of Defence, and is headed by Dr. Samir V. Kamat.
