1. Haryana to host 2021 Khelo India Youth Games after Tokyo Olympics
  • Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, and the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju on July 25 announced that Haryana will host the 4th edition of Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG). The games are currently scheduled to take place after Tokyo Olympics.
  • In a video conference, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju informed that 2021 Khelo India Youth Games will be held in Panchkula in Haryana. The minister announced the news in the presence of Sports Minister of Haryana, Sandeep Singh, Secretary Sports, Ravi Mittal, and Director General Sports Authority of India, Sandip Pradhan.
  • Haryana has a history of producing of many elite athletes, such as, Bajrang Punia, Yogeshwar Dutt, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik, para-athlete Deepak Malik, Boxer Amit Panghal and shooters Manu Bhakar, Sanjeev Rajput, Anish Bhanwala, who has represented and won medals for India at International Platform.

2. India observed 21st anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26
  • On July 26, 2020, India marked Kargil Vijay Diwas. The Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute at National War Memorial. The day marks India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war.
  • On July 26, 1999, Indian Government culminated “Operation Vijay” and declared victory after three-month long battle in Kargil. The Kargil War is an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place along Line of Control. India used its air power on a large scale for the first time in Kargil war after India-Pakistan War in 1971. Kargil is located very close to Line of Control.
  • The operation was launched by the Indian Army twice in Indian history. The first Operation Vijay was launched in 1961 that led to the capture of Goa, Anjediva islands and Daman and Diu. The second operation was launched in 1999. Both the operations were of huge success. However, the Kargil Vijay Diwas is marked on the culmination of Kargil war.

3. Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah distributed 100 electric potter wheels under KVIC’s 
  • The Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah distributed 100 electric potter wheels under Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana of KVIC (Khadi and Village Industries Commission). The electric potter wheels were distributed to the marginalized potter community under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. The wheels were distributed to the artisans who were trained under Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana of KVIC.
  • The scheme was launched by KVIC. It reaches out to potters in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, West Bengal, Haryana, Rajasthan, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Odisha, Bihar, and Gujarat.
  • The scheme provides support to potters in training for advanced pottery products, market linkages and visibility through KVIC exhibitions and latest and new technology pottery equipment like that of electric Chaak.

4. APSEZ Becomes the 1st Indian Port and 7th Port Globally to Sign Up for the Science-Based Targets initiative
  • Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) becomes the 1st Indian port and 7th Port globally to sign up for the Science-Based Targets initiative(SBTi). By signing the commitment letter to SBTi, APSEZ is committed to set science-based emissions reduction targets(across their entire value chain) that keep global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
  • APSEZ is one out of 43 Indian companies who have signed a commitment letter to SBTi. APSEZ has also signed a commitment as a supporter to the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosure (TCFD).
  • The science based targets are greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets that are in line with the level of decarbonisation required to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement ie., to control global warming below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.

5. TRIFED partnered with IIT-Delhi for Unnat Bharat Abhiyan under MHRD
  • Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) has entered into a partnership with IIT-Delhi (on behalf of the UBA, as the National Coordinating Institute) and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA, a Swadeshi Science Movement) at IIT, Delhi  for the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), a flagship national programme of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GoI). 
  • The MoU will Introduce Tribals to Newer Processing Technologies, Product Innovation, Mentorship and Transformational Digital Systems.Over 2600 Institutions will partner with TRIFED for Skilling Tribals for Livelihoods.

6. Nitin Gadkari launches “RestartIndia” advisory platform, to help MSME sector
  • Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise(MoMSME), launched www.restartindia.com, a mentoring platform. It was initiated jointly by Muthoot Fincorp and INKtalks to support the MSME sector to restart the business across the nation.

7. Amazon joins hands with Acko to offer auto insurance in India
  • Amazon Pay, the payments arm of Amazon India has partnered with Acko General Insurance Ltd to offer auto insurance for two and four-wheelers in India, a 100% paperless insurance plan. Customers can avail this auto insurance from Amazon Pay page, Amazon app or mobile website and can get a quote for their car or bike’s insurance by providing basic details.
  • The customers can get claims with one-hour pick-up, three-day assured claim servicing, and one-year repair warranty in select cities. It can be bought within 2 minutes.The policyholders will have an option for instant cash settlements for low-value claims.

8. GoI launched online system to issue transit permits for timber, forest produce
  • The Ministry of Environment launched the National Transit Pass System (NTPS), an online system for issuing transit permits for timber, bamboo, and other forest produce. It was virtually inaugurated by the Union Minister of Environment Prakash Javadekar. The System will make the process of getting permits faster and without physically going to forest department offices. The pilot project will function in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Telangana from now. 
  • The NTPS will enhance the seamless movement of forest produce. NTPS is a role-based and work-flow based application that is available on computers and mobile devices. The system will make the process of getting permits faster and without physically going to get the pass. It will save time and energy. Under NTPS, through mobile application e-pass will be issued for transit of forest produce.

9. Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurates state of the art honey testing lab in Gujarat
  • Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the ‘World Class State of Art Honey Testing Laboratory’ in Anand, Gujarat through Video Conference. The laboratory was established by National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) with support of the National Bee Board (NBB). The move is in line with PM Narendra Modi's vision to bring sweet revolution in India. 
  • The establishment of Laboratory will encourage large number of famers for production and marketing of Honey and earn more profit in agriculture. NDDB has set-up this world-class lab based on the parameters notified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) with all the facilities and developed the test methods/protocols, which have been accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). Now, FSSAI has notified new standards of Honey, Bee Wax and Royal Jelly.
  • Centre aims to increase the income of farmers and the Bee-keeping enterprise has to play a major role in supplementing the income of farmers.

10. Space startup DRT develops India’s first in-orbit space debris monitoring, tracking system
  • A Space start up namely Digantara Research and Technology (DRT) which has developed India’s first in-orbit space debris monitoring and tracking system that works on LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology has been selected by SID (Society for Innovation and Development) incubation program at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore. In this regard, the startup has received a grant of Rs 25 lakhs which will be used to develop space debris monitoring systems and the company’s expansion.
  • The In-orbit Space Debris Monitoring and tracking system provides global real-time earth coverage by deploying a constellation of cost-efficient nanosatellites in LEO (Low Earth Orbit) and a space-based air surveillance payload for accurate tracking of both aircraft and space objects.
  • Digantara will also help international space agencies to track and map the space debris and minimize the major threat to the future of space exploration.
