1.UN  General Assembly Approves First Resolution On Artificial Intelligence
  • The UN General Assembly has approved the first resolution on Artificial Intelligence, AI. The resolution gives global support to an international effort to ensure the powerful new technology benefits all nations, respects human rights and is safe, secure and trustworthy.
  • The resolution, sponsored by the United States and co-sponsored by 123 countries was adopted by consensus with a bang of the gavel and without a vote. It means the resolution has the support of all 193 U.N. member nations.
2. Election Commission Launches Saksham App To Facilitate Easier Voting For Persons With Disabilities And To Avail Facilities At Polling Stations
  • The Election Commission has launched the Saksham App to facilitate easier voting for Persons with Disabilities and to avail facilities at Polling Stations. Volunteers and wheelchairs will be available at every polling station.
  • The Election Commission has always focused on Accessible Voting every time as it has the motto of no voter is left behind. The Election Commission has announced that voters above 85 years of age and Persons with Disabilities with 40 percent benchmark disability can vote from home.
3. DGCA Imposes Rs 80 Lakh Penalty On Air India For Violating FDTL Rules
  • The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has imposed a financial penalty of eighty lakh rupees on Air India Limited for violation of regulations about Flight Duty Time Limitations, FDTL and Fatigue Management System, FMS of the flight crew.
  • DGCA conducted a spot audit of Air India Limited in January this year to verify the regulatory compliance by the operator in respect for FDTL and FMS regulations.During the audit, the evidences were collected and fleet-wise random reports were analyzed.

4. Australia Commits $3 Billion to British Industry for Timely Construction of Nuclear-Powered Submarines 
  • Australia is set to provide 4.6 billion Australian dollars ($3 billion) to British industry to support the construction of nuclear-powered submarines and ensure its new fleet arrives on time. The announcement came a day after the two countries signed a defense and security pact to better meet challenges such as China's increased activity in the South China Sea and South Pacific.
  • Under the AUKUS agreement, Australia’s ASC and UK-based BAE Systems will collaborate to construct the SSN-AUKUS submarines for the Royal Australian Navy.

5. International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade observed on 25th  March
  • On March 25th , International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade 2024 is celebrated all over the world. International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade is a United Nations international observance designated in 2007 to be marked on 25 March every year.
  • The day honours and remembers those who suffered and died as a consequence of the transatlantic slave trade, which has been called “the worst violation of human rights in history”, in over 400 years more than 15 million men, women, and children were the victims.
6. Reserve Bank of India Initiates Special Audit for IIFL Finance and JM Financial Products Beginning April 12,2024
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will commence a special audit of IIFL Finance Limited and JM Financial Products Ltd (JMFPL) from April 12, 2024, to further investigate their regulatory breaches.
  • RBI had stated that the business restrictions imposed on both entities would be reviewed after the completion of a special audit and rectification of deficiencies to satisfaction. The selected audit firms will be awarded work on April 12, 2024, to commence the special audit process.

7. Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority of India Introduces norms to enhance governance  
  • The Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has announced a set of new regulations to enhance the regulatory framework for the insurance industry. In its meeting held on March 19, IRDAI approved eight principle-based consolidated regulations.
  • These regulations focus on safeguarding policyholders' interests, rural and social sector responsibilities, electronic insurance marketplace, foreign reinsurance branches, and aspects of registration, actuarial, finance, investment, and corporate governance, the regulator said in a press release.

8. Appointment of Mariam Mammen Mathew as DNPA Chairperson
  • Mariam Mammen Mathew, CEO of Manorama Online, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) for a two-year term starting April 1, 2024. She succeeds Tanmay Maheshwari, Managing Director of Amar Ujala.
  • DNPA serves as a significant umbrella organization for digital media businesses, including print and broadcasting. DNPA comprises 18 prominent media organizations, including Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar, The Indian Express, and others. DNPA aims to democratize the digital news space, aligning with regulatory efforts to ensure fairness in the operations of Big Tech platforms in India.
9. FIFA Cancels Japan & North Korea World Cup Qualifier
  • The World football's governing body announced at the weekend that the return match in North Korea on 26 March "will not be played and will not be rescheduled". If this is confirmed, FIFA will award Japan a 3-0 win, which would take them straight through to the third round.
  • Japan are on the verge of advancing to the next stage, the third round of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States. And they will do so without having to play the second match against North Korea.
10. Badminton World Federation Announces Draws For Upcoming 2024 Thomas And Uber Cup Tournaments In Chengdu, China
  • The Badminton World Federation has announced the draws for the upcoming 2024 Thomas and Uber Cup tournaments in Chengdu, China. Defending champion Indian men’s team has been clubbed with tournament’s most successful team, Indonesia.
  • India will also face Thailand and England in Group C. India made history by clinching the Thomas Cup in 2022 with an impressive victory over Indonesia in Bangkok. Meanwhile, in the Uber Cup, the Indian women’s badminton team has been placed in Group A with, China, Canada and Singapore.
