1. Sangram Singh becomes first Indian  male wrestler to win MMA fight
Commonwealth Heavyweight champion Sangram Singh made a remarkable debut in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) at the Gama International. His victory marks the fastest win by an Indian fighter in the 93 kg division among 11 competing nations. The fighter himself credited much of his success to his coaching team Bhupesh Kumar and David.

2.  Chiranjeevi Enters Guinness World Records as Most Prolific Indian Film Star
Tollywood superstar K. Chiranjeevi has made history by being recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most prolific film star, earning the title of "Megastar" in the industry. He noted the importance of songs in films, explaining how they often play a significant role in a movie's success.

  • Megastar Chiranjeevi was honored by Guinness World Records for being the most prolific star in the Indian film industry in the actor/dancer category. 
  • He has performed 24,000 dance moves in 537 songs across 156 films over 45 years, according to sources close to the actor.

3. Kerala ranked 1st in State Food Safety Index 2024
Kerala has secured the top position in the Food Security Index for the second consecutive year at the national level. While Kerala leads, Tamil Nadu, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, and Nagaland have also made notable progress, earning spots in the top five rankings.

  • The annual ranking by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) assesses the food safety performance of Indian states and union territories.

4. Italy launches Prof Atta-ur-Rahman award for chemistry 
The World Academy of Sciences in Italy has created an annual award named after Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman for scientists under 40 from developing countries. This award, called the Atta-ur-Rahman Award in Chemistry, will be presented each year to the top scientist in these countries.

  • The 2024 award, sponsored by Searle Company Ltd, will be given to a chemist under 40 years old. 
  • Eligible candidates must be nationals of a science-and-technology lagging country (STLC). 
  • They must have lived and worked in that country for at least two years prior to their nomination.  The award is valued at $5,000.

5. Anura kumara elected as new President of Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka's leftist leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake was elected as president vowing to bring change to an island nation historically dominated by powerful political families. Millions of voters supported the opposition parliamentarian, trusting in his commitment to combat corruption and strengthen the fragile economic recovery.

  • Anura Kumara Dissanayake won the presidency with 42.31% of the vote.
  • Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa finished second, while incumbent president Ranil Wickremesinghe placed third.
  • He leads the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), a party with Marxist-Leninist roots.
  • Dissanayake comes from a small farming family. His father worked as an office aide and his mother was a homemaker.

6. Nazira Banoo Wins Gold In Taekwondo At Khelo India Women’s League
Nazira Banoo won the Gold Medal in the Individual Poomsae Under-30 Category at the 1st Khelo India Women's Taekwondo League Phase 1. The event took place in Vadodara, Gujarat. Her outstanding performance earned her a spot in the Khelo India Women's League Nationals Phase-III nationals which will be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

  • The event was organized by the Taekwondo Federation of India in partnership with Khelo India, under the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs.

7. Alok Ranjan appointed as the Chief of NCRB
Senior IPS officers Alok Ranjan and another unnamed officer were appointed as the chiefs of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, respectively, as per an official order.

  • Ranjan, a 1991-batch IPS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the Director of NCRB until his retirement on June 30, 2026.

8. Kalikesh Singh elected as NRAI president
Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo has been elected as the new chief of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), defeating VK Dhall 36 to 21 in elections held at the Constitution Club of India on Saturday. The elections were overseen by Anil Dev Singh, a retired Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.

  • Kalikesh, a former MP from Odisha, had been managing the daily operations of the NRAI in accordance with the government's NSC.
  • Kalikesh, as caretaker head of the NRAI, led India to three bronze medals at the Paris Olympics, ending a medal drought from the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Games. 
  • He will remain president until 2025, when the next NRAI general body meeting is scheduled.

9. International Day of Sign Languages is observed on September 23
The International Day of Sign Languages is observed every year on September 23 to raise awareness about sign languages and the rights of deaf individuals. This year's theme is “Sign up for Sign Language Rights.”

  • Communication Tool: Sign language is an essential nonverbal method mainly used by those who are hard of hearing, enabling effective communication among deaf individuals and with their environment. 
  • UN Recognition: The UN General Assembly designated this day as part of the International Week of the Deaf to emphasize the significance of sign languages and the rights of deaf individuals. 
  • The inaugural celebration occurred in 2018, representing a major advancement in recognizing the linguistic rights of deaf individuals. 
  • September 23 was selected to honor the founding of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) in 1951. 
10. Veteran leader M.M. Lawrence passed away
Veteran Communist Party of India-Marxist leader M.M. Lawrence passed away today at a private hospital after a prolonged illness at the age of 95. He had been mostly confined to his home in Kochi after retiring from active politics. Lawrence served as a Lok Sabha member from Idukki from 1980 to 1984 and was known for his advocacy of workers' rights. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan were among those who paid tribute to him.

  • He played a key role in organizing workers in both organized and unorganized sectors. 
  • He was one of the first political activists in Kerala to organize manual scavengers.
