1. Renowned Assamese poet Nilamani Phookan to be conferred Jnanpith award in Guwahati
  • Eminent Assamese poet Nilamani Phookan will be Conferred with the country's highest literary award, 56th Jnanpith at Guwahati.
  • Nilmani Phookan is the third person to win the Jnanpith Award from Assam after Mamoni Roisom Goswami and Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya.
  • Notable works of Phookan: ‘Xurjya Henu Naami Aahe Ei Nodiyedi’, ‘Kabita’, and ‘Gulapi Jamur Lagna’
  • 57th Jnanpith Award 2022: Novelist Damodar Mauzo was chosen for his contribution to Indian literature.

2. World Parkinson's Day 2022 observed on April 11
  • To raise awareness of Parkinson's disease, which is described as a movement disorder that impacts the nervous system, is observed as World Parkinson's Day annually on April 11.
  • The theme for World Parkinson's Day 2022 is "integrated health care".
  • This day also marks the birth anniversary of Dr. James Parkinson, who first described the features of the disease in his article - An Essay on the Shaking Palsy in 1817.
3. Axis Bank and Asian Development Bank collaborate to offer supply chain finance
  • Axis Bank has signed a USD 150 million Partial Guarantee Facility Agreement (PGFA) with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to support supply chain financing for impact sectors.
  • The programme will have a special focus on ESG (environmental, social and governance).
  • The deal will help Axis Bank to boost its support of SMEs, contribute to economic growth, and create jobs that improve people’s lives.

4. President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurates annual 'Madhavpur Mela' in Gujarat
  • President Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated the annual Madhavpur Mela at Madhavpur Ghed in the Porbandar, Gujarat.
  • This fair is a symbol of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat which is being organized as part of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.
  • This fair has been organized by the Cultural Ministry in collaboration with the Gujarat government since 2018.
  • The temple trust and gram panchayat organize a cultural fair annually in the memory of the marriage of Lord Krishna and Rukmani Ji.

5. Bishesh Huirem becomes first transgender to win best actor award
  • Bishesh Huirem becomes the first transgender actress who was honoured with the Best Actor Award in the prestigious Manipur State Film Awards.
  • She received the award for exceptional performance in the film ‘Apaiba Leichil’ (floating clouds) for portraying a transgender character. She also clinched the Special Mention Award.
  • Best Feature Film: ‘Eikhoigi Yum’ directed by Romi Meitei
  • Best Direction Award: Bobby Haobam for the film ‘Rongdaife’
6. Indian contingent ends campaign with 10 medals at 2022 Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament
  • A group of 15 Indian boxers has won the 10 medals, including three golds, four silvers, and three bronze at the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament 2022 in Phuket.
  • The winner of the Gold medal earned USD 2000.

7. Pakistan carries out successful flight test of Shaheen-III ballistic missile
  • Pakistan has conducted Shaheen-III surface to surface ballistic missile flight-tested successfully.
  • Shaheen-III has a range of 2,750 KM which made this missile capable of reaching the farthest point in India's northeast and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • It is a solid-fuelled missile that is equipped with the Post-Separation Altitude Correction (PSAC) system.
  • The missile was first tested in March 2015.

8. Vikas Siri Sampat-111 scheme launched by Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank
  • P Gopi Krishna, Chairman of Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank has launched a new deposit scheme of the bank named Vikas Siri Sampat-1111.
  • The tenure of this scheme is of 1,111 days with an interest rate of 5.70% for the general public and 6.20 % for senior citizens.
  • It also offers the highest rate of annualized return of 6.03% for the general public and 6.60% for senior citizens.
  • Under the scheme, the account holder can deposit ₹10,000 to ₹2 crores.

9. Charles Leclerc wins Formula One Australian Grand Prix 2022
  • Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has named the title F1 Australian Grand Prix 2022 held on 10 April 2022 at Albert Park Circuit, in Melbourne, Victoria.
  • He surpassed Red Bull's driver Sergio Pérez and Mercedes's driver George Russell.
  • Mercedes’s driver Lewis Hamilton placed fourth ahead of the McLarens of Norris and Ricciardo.

10. Actor Shiv Kumar Subramaniam passed away
  • Actor-screenwriter Shiv Kumar Subramaniam has passed away, he was known for his roles in serial Mukti Bandhan and Meenakshi Sundareshwar.
  • He started his career by writing a screenplay for 1989 film Parinda which was directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
  • He won the Filmfare Award for Best Story for Hazaron Khawaishein Aisis.
  • He has worked in films like 2 States, Hichki, Nail Polish, Rocky Handsome and more.
