1.Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award renamed as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the renaming of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (the country’s highest sporting honour) after hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand.
  • Major Dhyan Chand (1905–79) was known for his extraordinary goal-scoring feats, in addition to earning three Olympic gold medals, in 1928, 1932 and 1936, during an era where India dominated the field hockey.
  • The prestigious award carries prize money of Rs. 25 lakh.

2.Quit India Day 2021: 8 August
  • Every year, the Quit India Day (or August Kranti Day) is observed on 8 August to commemorate the anniversary of Quit India Movement, launched by Father of Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, on 8 August 1942 at the All-India Congress Committee session in Bombay.
  • In 2021, we are celebrating the 79th anniversary of Quit India Day.
  • Quit India Movement also known as Bharat Chodo Andolan and August Kranti Movement was a ‘do or die’ call to the people of India initiated by Gandhiji to demand an end to the British rule in India.
3.SEBI allows payments banks to act as investment bankers
  • SEBI has allowed Non-scheduled payments banks to carry out the activities of investment bankers to provide easy access to investors to participate in public and rights issues by using various payment avenues.
  • This is subject to fulfilment of the conditions stipulated in the BTI rules.
  • They will also be permitted to act as self-certified syndicate banks, subject to the fulfilment of the criteria laid down by the SEBI in this regard from time to time.

4.Wrestler Bajrang Punia bags Bronze Medal in 65 kg category
  • India's Wrestler Bajrang Punia beat Kazakhstan's Daulet Niyazbekov 8-0 to win the bronze medal in the men's 65kg freestyle event.
  • He becomes the sixth Indian wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics.
  • Young Indian golfer Aditi Ashok narrowly missed the chance to win the bronze medal.
5.New book offers insights into 2019 Balakot air strikes
  • Manan Bhatt has come up with a new book titled as ‘Balakot Air Strike: How India Avenged Pulwama’
  • The book is published by Garuda Prakashan.
  • It has captured the real-life events surrounding February 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing attack, and India’s strong hit-back in the form of Balakot airstrikes twelve days later
  • Manan Bhatt is a Retired non-commissioned officer of the Indian Navy who participated in Kargil War and Operation Parakram.
6.Neeraj Chopra wins Gold in Javelin Throw at Tokyo Olympics
  • India's Javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra (23-years) created history by winning the first-ever Gold Medal in the Olympic track and field event.
  • Chopra won the country’s seventh medal and first gold in this Olympics and joined shooter Abhinav Bindra (2008 Beijing Games) as India’s individual gold winner in the showpiece.
  • Neeraj Chopra is from Khandra village, Panipat district, Haryana.
  • He was educated at DAV College, Chandigarh.
7.J&K LG Manoj Sinha flags off Cyclothon event ‘Pedal for Dal’ from shores of Dal Lake
  • J&K LG Manoj Sinha flagged off Cyclothon event ‘Pedal for Dal’ from the shores of the Dal Lake in the run-up to the Independence Day celebrations.
  • The cyclothon witnessed the enthusiastic participation of more than 200 boys and girls from different age groups along with professional cyclists.
  • Mr. Sinha said that activities like ‘Pedal for Dal’ mark the celebrations of ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’ and also give hope to the entire humanity of a prosperous future.
8.Karnataka becomes first state to issue order implementing NEP-2020
  • Karnataka has become the first state in the country to issue the order with regard to the implementation of National Education Policy-2020, State Higher Education Minister C N Ashwath Narayan claimed.
  • The state government has issued an order on Saturday on the implementation of NEP-2020 with effect from the current academic year 2021-2022.
  • Earlier on July 29, on the first anniversary of NEP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched SAFAL (STRUCTURED Assessment For Analysing Learning), a competency-based assessment for grades 3,5, and 8 introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
9.Indian Navy undertakes bilateral exercise ‘Zayed Talwar 2021’ with UAE Navy
  • Indian Navy undertook bilateral exercise ‘Zayed Talwar 2021’ with UAE Navy on Saturday off the coast of Abu Dhabi.
  • INS Kochi, with two integral Sea King MK 42B helicopters, deployed in the Persian Gulf, participated in the exercise.
  • UAE participated with UAES AL – Dhafra, a Baynunah class guided missile corvette and one AS – 565B Panther helicopter.
  • As part of the exercise, the ships undertook tactical manoeuvres, Over the Horizon Targeting, Search and Rescue and Electronic Warfare exercises to enhance interoperability and synergy between the two navies.
  • Helicopters were extensively used all through the exercise ranging from Search and Rescue serial to passing of targeting data to ships for simulated missile engagement drills

10.PM Modi interacts with beneficiaries of PMGKAY in Madhya Pradesh
  • The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi interacted with the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in Madhya Pradesh today via video conferencing.
  • An intensive campaign to create more awareness about the scheme is being conducted by the state government so that no eligible person is left out.
  • The state is celebrating 7th August, 2021 as Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana Day.
  • Governor and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh were also present on the occasion. About 5 crore beneficiaries are benefitting through the scheme in Madhya Pradesh.
  • While addressing the programme, Prime Minister expressed his concerns about the flood situation in many districts of MP.
