1. National Cancer Awareness day observed on 7 november

National Cancer Awareness Day is celebrated in India on
7 November to educate people about cancer, its treatment, and its symptoms. National Cancer Awareness Day was first announced by the Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan in September 2014.

The day coincides with the birth anniversary of the eminent scientist Madame Curie.

Marie Curie is remembered for her discovery of radium and polonium, and her huge contribution to the fight against cancer. Her work led to the development of nuclear energy and radiotherapy for the treatment of cancer.
2. US formally exits Paris pact aiming to curb climate change

The US formally exited the Paris Climate Agreement
amid election uncertainty. Donald Trump announced his intent to remove the country from participating in the landmark global pact to reduce greenhouse gas emissions three years ago.

President Trump originally announced his intention to withdraw from the agreement in 2017 and formally notified the United Nations last year. The historic accord seeks to limit global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius, the value that climate scientists have determined will have disastrous consequences if exceeded.

Trump has repeatedly criticised the agreement as economically detrimental and claimed it could cost the country 2.5 million jobs by 2025. The US is the only country to withdraw from the global pact. The US is the second leading producer of all carbon dioxide emissions globally, behind China.

3. Second batch of three Rafale fighter jets arrive in India

India receives the second batch of three Rafale Aircraft,
bringing total Rafale Jets with IAF to eight.

The second batch of three Rafale jets landed in Jamnagar, Gujarat on 4th November 2020, after flying non-stop from France. Earlier, the first batch of five Rafale jets arrived in India on July 28 and they were officially inducted in the Indian Air Force on 10 September at Ambala Air Base in Haryana.

With the arrival of the second batch, the IAF now has a total of eight Rafale fighter aircraft. As per the information by Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, the induction of all 36 jets will be completed by 2023.

4. WhatsApp Pay goes live in India with some riders

WhatsApp has finally launched services on the United
Payments Interface (UPI) in a major boost for the Facebook-owned app in its biggest market. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), India’s flagship payments processor, permitted WhatsApp to go live on UPI.

WhatsApp can expand its UPI base in a graded manner starting with a maximum number of registered users at 20 million, the NPCI said in a statement. The NPCI runs the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) used for real-time payments between peers or at merchants’ end while making purchases. The UPI channel has rapidly grown to become India’s most favoured mode of digital transactions since its launch in terms of volumes.

5. Yashvardhan K. Sinha appointed new Chief Information Commissioner

Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha was appointed as the Chief
Information Commissioner (CIC), President Ram Nath Kovind has administered the oath of office to Sinha as the Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The post had been lying vacant for over two months after Bimal Julka completed his term on August 26.

Sinha, a former diplomat, joined as the Information Commissioner on January 1, 2019. He has served as India's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Sri Lanka.
6. Former Delhi chief secretary MM Kutty to be chairperson of Air Quality Commission

The Centre has notified the Commission for Air Quality
Management for the National Capital Region (NCR).An ordinance was issued on October 29 to set up the new agency with sweeping powers to monitor and act against sources of air pollution across five north Indian states.

The ordinance empowers the agency to make rules, set emission standards, and slap fines of up to Rs 1 crore or imprison violators for up to five years.

Delhi chief secretary MM Kutty will be the Commission’s first chairperson. Kutty is also ex-secretary, ministry of petroleum and natural gas.
7. Tata Technologies to modernise Karnataka ITIs into tech hubs with outlay of Rs 4,600 crore

Engineering services company Tata Technologies has
signed an agreement with Karnataka government to modernise 150 state-run ITIs with an outlay of Rs 4,600 crore.

The project cost will include investment from the state government as well as from a consortium of 20 companies led by Tata Technologies.

The project is expected to bring qualitative improvements in the field of industrial training and education to create an enhanced learning environment for training youth to cater to industry requirements.

8. Hariharan bags J C Daniel award for lifetime contributions to Malayalam cinema

Noted filmmaker Hariharan has been selected for the J C
Daniel Award, the state government’s highest honour for lifetime contributions to Malayalam cinema. The award carries a purse of Rs 5 lakh, a citation, and a sculpture.

Hariharan was chosen for the prestigious award by a jury chaired by MT Vasudevan Nair with director Harikumar, actor Vidhubala, State Chalachitra Academy chairman Kamal and Cultural Department Secretary Rani George as members.

Hariharan, who initially skilled with cinematographer U Rajagopal in Madras, later assisted administrators M Krishnan Nair, AB Raj, and JD Thottanm for seven years. In 1972 he directed the film ‘Girls Hostel’. Later he got here up with a few of the evergreen films in Malayalam.
9. Sports Ministry sanctions Rs 5 lakh to the family of deceased Manipuri Footballer Manitombi Singh

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had sanctioned 5
lakh rupees to the family of deceased Manipuri Footballer Manitombi Singh in an effort to ease the financial crisis of the family. Manitombi, who died in August, 2020 at the age of 39, was the only earning member of his family and is survived by his wife and a son.

Manitombi has contributed significantly to Indian football and also contributed as a coach in Manipur. The grant of 5 lakh rupees was sanctioned under the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for sportspersons.

The sports ministry has been consistently helping athletes in need of financial support through this fund.

10. Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Shri Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurate the circular dome at Gandhi Darshan, Rajghat

Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Science &
Technology, and Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge) inaugurated the 360o video-immersive experience in circular dome and Digital Exhibits on Mahatma Gandhi installed at Gandhi Darshan, Rajghat, in New Delhi today.

This was part of two-year long commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Secretary, DST, Prof. Ashustosh Sharma; Secretary Culture, Shri Raghvendra Singh; Director Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, Shri Dipanker Gyan and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
