1. MY Bharat Earns Guinness World Records Title
  • The Milestone: The record was established with 390,812 participants who successfully completed the entire length of the "Viksit Bharat Young Leaders' Dialogue (VBYLD)" quiz. The official assessment period for the record took place from October 25 to October 31, 2025. 
  • The Initiative: The quiz was part of the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders' Dialogue (VBYLD), a nationwide youth engagement campaign aimed at fostering awareness and active participation among India’s youth in the vision of achieving a developed India by 2047 (Viksit Bharat@2047). 
  • Scale of Engagement: The initiative witnessed massive outreach, with over 50.42 lakh youth participating from all 28 states and 8 Union Territories across India. The final record was confirmed following a rigorous verification process, including independent digital forensic audits and detailed scrutiny of the participation records. 
2. Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary in UP became India’s 100th Ramsar Site
  • Significant Milestone: The Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary, also known as Surha Tal, located in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, has been officially designated as India's 100th Ramsar site.
  • Ecological Importance: This freshwater wetland is a vital habitat for diverse wildlife, supporting approximately 221 plant species, 66 fish species, and numerous migratory and resident birds, including vulnerable species like the common pochard.
  • Formation and Features: Originally formed from a meander of the Ganga River, the sanctuary is characterized by expansive marshes, floodplains, and seasonally flooded areas, acting as a crucial refuge for waterbirds, especially during the summer months.
3. Bangladesh’s FM Rahman Elected as 81st President of UNGA
  • Competitive Election: In a rare and closely contested secret ballot, Rahman secured 99 votes against 91 votes for the rival candidate, Andreas Kakouris of Cyprus. While the position is traditionally filled by consensus, this year's election required a vote due to multiple candidates from the Asia-Pacific regional group. 
  • Term and Commencement: He is set to begin his one-year term on September 8, 2026, succeeding the current president, Annalena Baerbock. 
  • Key Priorities: Rahman has outlined six primary focus areas for his tenure: peace and security, accelerating progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate action and environmental protection, human rights, the governance of emerging technologies (including AI), and broader UN reform. 
4. NPCI and ACLEDA Bank Partner to Bring UPI Payments to Cambodia
  • Expanded Reach for Indian Travelers: In the first phase of the partnership, Indian tourists can now make seamless, real-time QR-based payments at over 4.5 million merchant outlets across Cambodia, including retail stores, restaurants, and tourist attractions, using their familiar UPI-enabled mobile applications. 
  • Two-Way Interoperability: While the initial phase focuses on Indian travelers in Cambodia, the initiative is designed as a two-way corridor. A future phase will allow Cambodian citizens visiting India to use their domestic banking and payment applications to scan and pay at millions of UPI-enabled merchant locations across India. 
  • Growing Global Footprint: Cambodia becomes the ninth country to adopt UPI services. This integration follows the system's successful implementation in Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, and Sri Lanka, furthering India's initiative to create a global, interoperable digital payment network.

5. Neelkanth Mishra’s appointed as Executive Director, World Bank
  • Tenure and Succession: The appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on June 4, 2026, is for a term of three years. He will succeed the incumbent, Parameswaran Iyer, whose tenure has been extended beyond June 19, 2026, to ensure a smooth transition until Mishra assumes the post in Washington, D.C. 
  • Broad Economic Expertise: Before this role, Mishra served as the Chief Economist at Axis Bank and Head of Global Research at Axis Capital. He is a prominent figure in public policy, currently serving as a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), and holding key positions at the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). 
  • Significance of the Role: As Executive Director, Mishra will be a pivotal voice on the World Bank’s Board, influencing global development financing, infrastructure investments, poverty reduction strategies, and economic growth initiatives.

6. Anupam Misra appointed as the new HCL CMD
  • Appointment Details: On June 4, 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of Anupam Misra as the new Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL). 
  • Succession Plan: He will succeed the current CMD, Sanjiv Kumar Singh, who is set to retire on June 30, 2026. Misra’s appointment is effective from the date he assumes charge and will continue until his superannuation on February 28, 2030. 
  • Professional Background: Prior to this role, Anupam Misra served as the Director (Marketing) at The Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT). He is an engineering graduate from IIT Kharagpur with a PGDM from IIM Lucknow and brings over 27 years of experience in marketing, international trading, and the management of industrial raw materials.

7. APCNF Won 2026 Food Planet Prize from Sweden’s Curt Bergfors Foundation
  • Global Recognition and Prize Value: Often described as the world's largest environmental award, the prize comes with a $1.5 million grant. The foundation recognized APCNF for leading one of the most ambitious and successful transitions to agroecology, highlighting its potential as a scalable model for climate-resilient, nature-positive food systems.
  • Scale and Impact: Launched in 2016 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh through the Rythu Sadhikara Samstha (RySS), the program now involves approximately 1.8 million farmers across more than 8,000 villages.
  • Future Vision: The state government plans to utilize this global momentum to further its goal of transitioning to a 100% natural farming state by 2047. The award funds will be directed toward expanding demonstration sites, strengthening research partnerships, and developing implementation toolkits to help other Indian states and countries replicate this successful grassroots model. 
8. Former Lok Sabha Secretary & constitutional expert Subhash C. Kashyap passed away
  • Distinguished ParliamentaryCareer: Dr. Kashyap served the Parliament of India for over 37 years, spanning from the era of Jawaharlal Nehru’s first Lok Sabha to the 9th Lok Sabha. He served as the Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha from 1983 to 1990, a period during which he was instrumental in shaping parliamentary procedures and strengthening democratic institutions. 
  • Prolific Constitutional Scholar: Often described as a "living encyclopedia" of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Kashyap authored over 100 books on constitutional law and parliamentary democracy.
  • Legacy in Constitutional Reform: Beyond his administrative role, he remained deeply active in shaping India’s legal framework even in his later years. He served as a member of the high-level committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind, which was tasked with preparing a legal framework for "One Nation, One Election" (simultaneous elections).
