1. Danielle McGahey to become first transgender to play international cricket
- In an historic moment, Danielle McGahey from Canada is set to become the first
transgender cricketer to participate in an international match. Her groundbreaking inclusion will occur next month during a regional qualifying tournament for the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.
- Aged 29, McGahey holds the role of an opening batter and has been chosen as a member of Canada's women's squad for the qualifying tournament. She fulfilled the eligibility criteria outlined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for male-to-female transgender players. Scheduled from September 4 to 11, the qualifying tournament will take place in Los Angeles. Canada is pitted against Argentina, Brazil, and the United States in the ICC Americas Qualifier, vying for a spot in the global qualifiers.
2. Kathmandu-Kalinga Literary Festival concluds in Lalitpur, Nepal
- The three day long Kathmandu-Kalinga Literary Festival successfully came to an
end in Lalitpur, Nepal. Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud of Nepal had inaugurated the festival. This event fulfilled its role in the exchange of culture in the South Asia promoting literary and cultural activities. Llitterateur from India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka exhibited in the Festival. The festival showcased literature, music, dance, poetry and other art forms.

3. Teachers' Day is observed every year on 5th of September
- In India, 5th September is celebrated as Teachers' Day as a mark of tribute to
the contribution made by teachers to society. To commemorate Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birth anniversary, Teachers' Day is observed in India on September 5 of each year.
- Radhakrishnan completed his entire education through scholarships. He possessed a master’s degree in Philosophy and authored the book ‘The Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore’ in 1917. He also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University from 1931 to 1936 and the Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in 1939, succeeding Madan Mohan Malviya.
4. Gujarat Declaration underlines outcome of first WHO Traditional Medicine Global Summit 2023
- World Health Organization (WHO) has released the outcome document of first
WHO Traditional Medicine Global Summit 2023 in form of “Gujarat Declaration”. The declaration reaffirmed global commitments towards indigenous knowledges, biodiversity and traditional, complementary and integrative medicine.
- WHO underlined that the application of rigorous scientific methods is needed to better understand, assess and, where appropriate, apply more holistic, context-specific, complex and personalized approaches for health and well-being for all.

5. SBI Card unveils additional features on its super-premium card 'AURUM'
- SBI Card, India's largest credit card issuer, launched new features of its super-
premium card 'AURUM' , targeted at the premium section of society, such as high-net-worth individuals.
- The card offers unlimited international lounge access to cardholders, as well as four international lounge visits for accompanying guests. 6. Govt partners with Meta for ‘Education to Entrepreneurship’ to skill 500,000 entrepreneurs
- Ministry of Education, Ministry Skill Development & Entrepreneurship along with
Meta have launched a 3-year partnership “Education to Entrepreneurship: Empowering a generation of students, educators and entrepreneurs”. It was launched by Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan.
- Under this partnership, 5 lakh entrepreneurs will get access to digital marketing skills by Meta over the next 3 years. In the initial stage, the budding and existing entrepreneurs will be trained in digital marketing skills using Meta platforms in 7 regional languages. For this, 3 Letters of Intent (LoI) were exchanged between Meta and National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), AICTE and CBSE.
7. Lokesh Suji elected to IESF Membership Committee for 3-year term
- The General Body of the International Esports Federation (IESF) has elected
Lokesh Suji, Director of the Esports Federation of India (ESFI) and Vice-President of the Asian Esports Federation (AESF), to its esteemed Membership Committee on a three-year term. This election marks the first time that an Indian has become a part of the membership committee of the International Esports Federation. The IESF is a global Esports organization working towards promoting Esports as a true sport beyond language, race, and culture barriers.
- Its Membership Committee is instrumental in upholding consistency, fairness, and excellence among its members. They enforce the federation's rules, promote integrity, and nurture unity within the Esports community. The committee also carefully assesses new member applications to maintain high standards and advance the global Esports mission.
8. IIT Jodhpur develops novel device to ensure good indoor air quality
- Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur have developed
a novel Cold-plasma Detergent in Environment ‘CODE’ device for good indoor air quality. The device has been tested extensively which deactivates more than 99.99% of harmful pathogens and provides quality indoor air.
- Air pollution is basically one of the top 5 risks causing chronic diseases according to the World Health Organisation. We consume nearly 8 times as much air by volume as food and 4 times as much air as water. Indoor air often contains around 2-5 times more pollution as compared to outdoor air. Sick building syndrome is also a challenging issue nowadays. Besides these, airborne transmitted pathogen infection is a huge challenge in the current era.
9. ISRO successfully launched 7 Singaporean satellites on board PSLV-C56 Rocket from Sriharikota
- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)’s PSLV-C56 rocket
successfully launched Singapore’s DS-SAR satellite and 6 co-passenger payloads from the first launch-pad (FLP) of Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh (AP). This mission, PSLV-C56 / DS-SAR, is a dedicated commercial mission conducted by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) for ST Engineering, Singapore.
- This is the 58th flight of PSLV and 17th flight of PSLV in Core Alone configuration. VELOX-AM, a technology demonstration microsatellite (23 kg) .

10. Satyajit Majumdar honoured with Dr V G Patel Memorial Award 2023
- Mumbai Professor Satyajit Majumdar, dean of School of Management and
Labour Studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), will receive the ‘Dr V G Patel Memorial Award-2023 for Entrepreneurship Trainer, Educator and Mentor’ on September 6 for his work in promoting and strengthening entrepreneurship in India. Dr Patel is widely acknowledged as the Father of Entrepreneurship Movement in India.
- Majumdar’s name was chosen among 400 applicants from 26 states by a jury nominated by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad.
