1. Telangana government hikes ST reservation in educational institutions, government jobs from 6% to 10%
- On October 1, the Telangana government issued orders for a 10 per cent reservation for
Schedule Tribes (ST) in educational institutions and government jobs. Previously, candidates of the ST community were given six per cent reservation in the state.
- A bill was passed by the Telangana Assembly in April 2017 and it was sent to the Centre for obtaining the President's assent. Commenting on this, during these six years the State government sent several representations in this connection, but the same is still pending. Therefore, in these circumstances, it is expedient to enhance the percentage of Scheduled Tribe reservations, without any further loss of time.

2. Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra topped destinations for foreign tourists 2021
- Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu had the highest numbers of foreign tourist visits, with 1.26
million and 1.23 million, respectively in 2021. The over 280-page report titled ‘India Tourism Statistics 2022’ was released by Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on World Tourism Day at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. India received 677.63 million domestic tourist visits in 2021, an increase of 11.05 per cent from 610.22 million in 2020.
- India ranked 54th in the global Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) in 2021. During the event, Dhankar also presented the National Tourism Awards 2018-19. The annual ceremony had been put on hold on account of the Covid-19 outbreak.

3. UGC Guidelines HEIs must add 25% more seats for international students
- Higher educational institutions (HEIs) across the country will now be allowed to create
up to 25% supernumerary seats for foreign students and will have to adopt a transparent admission process for them.
- As per the ‘Guidelines for Admission and Supernumerary seats of International Students in Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes in Higher Educational Institutions in India’. HEIs may create up to 25% supernumerary seats for international students, overand above of their total sanctioned enrolment for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- The decision regarding supernumerary seats has to be carried out by the higher educational institutions concerned as per specific guidelines and regulations issued by the regulatory bodies considering the infrastructure, faculty and other requirements.
4. Kangana Ranaut becomes brand ambassador of UP’s ODOP Scheme
- The Uttar Pradesh government named actor Kangana Ranaut as
the brand ambassador of its ambitious 'one district-one product' programme. The actor met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence .
- The UP government has launched the one district-one product (ODOP) programme with the aim to create product-specific traditional industrial hubs across 75 districts of the state.

5. Sujoy Lal Thaosen, Anish Dayal Singh named as New DGs of CRPF, ITBP
- Indian Police Service (IPS) officers Sujoy Lal Thaosen and Anish Dayal Singh have
been appointed as the new director generals of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) respectively.
- Sujoy Lal Thaosen is a 1988-batch officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre and is currently working as the director general (DG) of the border guarding force Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and holding the additional charge of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
- Anish Dayal Singh, a 1988-batch officer (Manipur cadre), is currently serving as a special director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
- Thaosen’s scheduled retirement is in November this year, while Singh will superannuate in December 2024.
6. ISRO scientist Anil Kumar elected Vice President of IAF
- Dr. A K Anil Kumar, SeniorScientist in ISRO is elected as the Vice President of the
International Astronautical Federation (IAF) during its Annual Conference International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2022 held in Paris during 18-22 September 2022.
- Founded in 1951, the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) is the world's leading space advocacy body with 433 members in 72 countries, including all leading space agencies, companies, research institutions, universities, societies, associations, institutes, and museums worldwide.IAF actively encourages the development of astronautics for peaceful purposes and supports the dissemination of scientific and technical information related to space.

7. CBI launched Operation GARUDA to dismantle drug networks
- The Central Bureau of Investigation has launched a multi-phase ‘Operation Garuda’
against illicit drug trafficking network, registering 127 new cases, arresting 175 people and seizing huge quantities of narcotic drugs.
- A CBI release said the operation seeks to disrupt, degrade and dismantle drug networks with international linkages through rapid exchange of criminal intelligence on drug trafficking and coordinated law enforcement actions across international jurisdiction through Interpol.

8. Indian javelin thrower Shivpal Singh suspended till 2025 for doping
- Indian javelin thrower Shivpal Singh has been suspended from competing till October
2025 due to a doping violation.
- He subsequently tested positive for the banned substance methandienone, a performance-enhancing steroid.
- As a result, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) suspended Shivpal Singh for four years. The ban comes into effect from October 21, 2021, which means that the 27-year-old will be out of action till October 2025.
9. Svante Paabo awarded Nobel Prize in medicine
- Paabo, director at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig,
Germany, won the prize for "discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution," .
- Swedish geneticist Svante Paabo won the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discoveries that underpin our understanding of how modern day humans evolved from extinct ancestors.
- Paabo was "overwhelmed" and "very happy for the Nobel Committee for Physiology or Medicine, after calling the scientist with the news.
10. 68th National Wildlife Week observed on 02 to 08 October 2022
- The celebration of 68th National Wildlife Week is observed all over India from 2nd to 8th
October 2022. The main objective of this campaign is to promote the conservation and protection of animal life.
- It teaches people about animal life and encourages them to save a large number of animals by not killing them for their own food or for other purposes.
