1.Centre approves reconstruction plan worth over 1658 crore rupees for Joshimath in Uttarakhand
  • The Union government approved the Recovery and Reconstruction (R&R) plan of Rs 1658 crore for subsidence-hit Joshimath town. The decision was taken by a high-level committee, headed by Union home minister and minister of cooperation, Amit Shah.
  • As per the approved plan, Rs 1080 crore of central assistance will be allocated from the National Disaster Response Fund. A High-Level Committee under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah approved the plan.

2. Vice President says retired judges keeping country's arbitral system in tight fist grip
  • Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar lamented that retired judges have kept the arbitral system of the country in a "tight fist grip", denying chance to other qualified minds.He suggested that the time has come when we need to introspect and move forward by bringing about necessary changes, including, if required, by legislation.

3. World digital competitiveness index 2023 released
  • The International Institute for Management Development (IMD) unveiled its 2023 World Digital Competitiveness Ranking (WDCR) revealing India's position at 49th among 64 economies. According to IMD's study, India has made significant in terms of cybersecurity knowledge but lacks on fronts like technology and future readiness.
  • The WDCR is a comprehensive assessment that provides insights into how nations are navigating the digital landscape amid the rise of artificial intelligence (AI). This ranking sheds light on crucial elements contributing to a nation's digital prowess, a quality gaining paramount importance as technology continues to reshape societies globally.
4. India re elected to the international maritime organisation council
  • India was re-elected to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council with the highest tally at elections held at its Assembly in London for the 2024-25 biennium. The 33rd Assembly of the IMO Council is being held from 27 November to 6 December 2023 at the IMO Headquarters in London.
  • The Council is an executive body of the IMO and is responsible for monitoring the work of the organization.India's re-election falls under the Category of 10 states with "the largest interest in international seaborne trade", alongside Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
5. Scheme to provide drones to 1500 self help groups get cabinet nod
  • The Union Cabinet has approved a central sector scheme to provide drones to women self help groups (SHGs), with an outlay of Rs 1,261 crore.The decision was taken at a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

6.NLCIL Signs MoU with TNSDC & NTTF for Skill Development Training Programme for Unemployed Youth
  • NLC India Limited, a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, entered into a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)in Chennai with Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC), the  Nodal Agency of Government of Tamil Nadu for skill development and M/s Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF), Bengaluru, a pioneer institution on providing skill training to unemployed youth,  to meet the present industry demands.
  • This collaboration of NLCIL, TNSDC & NTTF will impart job-oriented skill development training for 540 wards of project affected families (PAFs’) of NLCIL’s operating areas in Neyveli.
  • NLCIL has committed to spend Rs1.12 lakh per candidate for this free residential programme under its budget for Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R).
  • This programme will help the candidates to become technically trained and get employment opportunities in premier companies.
7. civic body looks to rename firozabad to chandra nagar
  • This proposal was supported by 11 out of 12 executive members in the municipal corporation executive meeting and passed unanimously. The proposal to change the name of Aligarh to Harigarh has also been passed in the municipal corporation of Aligarh.
  • The proposal, which was first made byBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator Avneesh Valmiki, was approved by 11 out of 12 members of the Firozabad Nagar Nigam executive committee. The plan seeks to rename the city after Raja Chandra Sen, who ruled the region in the 16th century, people familiar with the matter.
8. R Vaishali becomes india's third female chess grandmaster
  • Vaishali achieved her first GM norm in 2019 and took three years to win the second norm in 2022. And, finally, after a year later she obtained her third and final norm in the Qatar Open in October. Vaishali's coach RB Ramesh, who has played a pivotal role in her career so far, was a proud man.
  • Vaishali isn’t the first from her family to become the Grandmaster, though. Her younger brother R. Praggnanandhaa had got the GM title in 2018, when he was just 12.R. Vaishali became only the third woman from India to get the Grandmaster (GM) title, the highest a chess player could aspire for. Koneru Humpy was the first; she was, in fact, the world’s youngest female player ever, when she became a GM in 2002, at the age of 15.
9. Safeena Husain, Founder of Educate Girls, honoured with the WISE Prize for Education
  • The prestigious WISE Award was honoured to Safina Hussain at the WISE 11 Summit (World Innovation Summit for Education).The WISE Prize for Education is the first global award of its kind that honours an individual for outstanding contributions to education.
  • Educate Girls is an example of this innovative approach, using AI to identify villages with a high number of out-of-school girls.More than 21,000 gender champions go door-to-door in India’s most remote villages to identify these girls.
10. Malayalam actress and musician subbulakshmi passed away at 87
  • Iconic actor and musician R Subbalakshmi, aged 87 and the mother of actress-dancer Thara Kalyan, has passed away. She breathed her last night. Renowned for her significant impact on Malayalam cinema and television, Subbalakshmi distinguished herself with outstanding portrayals in grandmother roles.
  • R Subbalakshmi has done numerous roles in films like ‘Kalyanaraman’, ‘Nandanam’, ‘Pandippada’, ‘CID Moosa’, ‘Thilakkam’ and many others. She has acted in over 75 films in different film industries over the years. She was recently seen in the Tamil blockbuster ‘Beast’ starring Vijay in the lead. She was also seen in ‘Ye Maaya Chesave’ starring Naga Chaitanya. Not just in the southern film industries, she even played smaller parts in many Hindi films as well.
