1. N S Vishwanathan gets extension by one year as RBI deputy governor

  • The government and the RBI started looking for a replacement of Vishwanathan and a few internal candidates were identified.
  • The portfolios got reshuffled based on the availability and seniority of deputy governors for the past 15 years.
  • Acharya’s resignation complicated the matter because two deputy governors would be leaving the central bank in a month’s intervalAcharya set to leave on July 23.The central bank refused for power sector loans The Supreme Court turned down the RBI’s objections.

2. Indian Air Force and Armée de l’Air (French Air Force) participating in a bilateral air exercise Garuda VI at Mont de Marsan in France

  • Indian Air Force (IAF) and Armée de l’Air (French Air Force) are participating in the Garuda VI bilateral exercise at Mont de Marsan in France. The exercise has been started on July 1 and will conclude on July 12. The objective of this exercise is to validate the latest defence strategies by enhancing the interoperability level of the French and Indian crews in air defence and ground attack missions.
  • Indian side – It comprised of 120 air-warriors and four Sukhoi 30 MKI along with an IL-78 flight refuelling aircraft. Also, IAF’s C-17 Globemaster strategic lift aircraft will provide logistics support to contingent during induction and de-induction phases.
  • French side – It comprises of Rafale, Alpha Jet, Mirage 2000, C135, E3F, C130, and Casa.

3. Carlin Dunne, motorcycle racer passed away at Colorado race

  • Carlin Dunne, motorcycle racer aged 36 passed away during the 97th Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. He hailed from Santa Barbara, California, USA. He was the fastest racer of the Hill Climb.Carlin Dunnei. He crashed his 2019 Ducati Streetfighter V4 Prototype near the finish line during the 97th  Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
  • He won the championship earlier in the year 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2018.
  • He earned the title of “King of the Mountain” after becoming the first motorcycle rider in the history of the race to achieve a sub-10-minute time in 2012.

4. Operation Khumaar launched in J&K to make 312 panchayats free from tobacco

  • In a major step aimed towards making ‘drugs-free panchayats’, district administration Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir (J&k) launched an anti Drug Campaign called “Operation Khumaar” in all 312 Panchayats of the district.
  • Resolution: Several Panchayats have already adopted a resolution on the occasion of International Day against Drug abuse and illicit trafficking (26th June 2019).Ban:  Tobacco products cannot be sold to a person below the age of 18 years and in a place within 100 yards radius from the outer boundary of the Schools.
  • COTPA act: The district Administration also decided to implement section 4 and section 5 of COTPA 2003, As per section 4 there is the prohibition of smoking in all public places and as per section 5, there is prohibition in the direct or indirect advertisement of Tobacco products.
  • Counseling centers: The district directed Block Medical Officers to set up counseling centers at all Community Health Centres (CHCs) to help tobacco consumers to quit this habit.

5. Maharashtra ranks first in NITI Aayog's AMFFR Index
  • Maharashtra achieves first rank in NITI Aayog launched "Agricultural Marketing and Farmer Friendly Reforms Index (AMFFRI)".
  • The index ranks states based on the degree of reforms they have undertaken in agricultural marketing.
  • AMFFRI has a score that can have minimum value “0” implying no reforms and maximum value “100” implying complete reforms in the selected areas.

6. Veteran industrialist BK Birla passes away
  • Birla Group patriarch and an ace of the Indian industry Basant Kumar Birla passed away in Mumbai.
  • He was the chairman of Century Textiles and Industries and was active in business since the age of 15.
7. ICICI & IndoStar Capital partner to finance commercial vehicles
  • ICICI Bank has tied up with NBFC IndoStar Capital for vehicle financing for small and medium fleet owners to buy new as well as old commercial vehicles.
  • Under this partnership, IndoStar will originate and service the customers through the entire loan life cycle including sourcing, documentation, collection and loan servicing.

8. Glorious Jagannath Rath Yatra 2019 begins in Puri, Odisha
  • The world famous Jagannath Rath Yatra 2019(also known as Chariot Festival) began at Puri in Odisha. The religious procession commemorates a journey by Hindu god Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra, in specially made chariots as they travel to Gundicha temple, their birthplace.

9. NASA successfully tests launch-abort system for moon-mission capsule
  • The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) successfully conducted the test of a launch-abort system for the Orion capsule designed to take United States (US) astronauts to the Moon. It took place at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, US.
  • It was launched by a mini-rocket, a repurposed first stage of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

10. Govt hikes MSP of Kharif crops for 2019-20 Season
  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the increase in the Minimum Support Prices for all Kharif crops for 2019-20 Season.
  • MSP of the following crops has been increased by:
  1. Paddy: 65 rupees per quintal
  2. Jowar: 120 rupees per quintal
  3. Ragi: 253 rupees per quintal
  4. Tur: 125 rupees per quintal
  5. Moong: 75 rupees per quintal
  6. Urad Pulses: 100 rupees per quintal
