1. General N.S. Raja Subramani Named as 27th Chief of Defense Staff

-
Assumption of Role: He succeeded General Anil Chauhan to become the third officer to hold this position. As the CDS, he also serves as the Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Military Affairs and acts as the Principal Military Adviser to the defence Minister.
-
Prior Experience: Before his appointment, he served as the Military Adviser at the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). His distinguished career includes serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff (July 2024 – July 2025) and as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command.
-
Strategic Focus: His primary mandate involves driving major military reforms, including the ambitious theaterisation plan to create integrated commands, fostering stronger tri-services synergy (jointness), and accelerating the development and induction of indigenous defence systems.

2. TN Farmer Valluvan Honoured as ‘FAO Soil Farmer Hero’

-
Transformation of Farming Practices: Faced with consistent financial losses in traditional coconut monoculture (spending ₹500 per tree while earning only ₹300), Valluvan overhauled his approach in 2009. He transitioned his 11-hectare holding into a diverse, multi-crop, tree-based "food forest" ecosystem.
-
Economic and Ecological Success: By cultivating over 14 types of crops—including coconut, nutmeg, pepper, banana, and turmeric—alongside 30 tree varieties, he increased his income from approximately ₹30,000 to ₹2.5–3 lakh per acre. His methods also significantly improved soil health, with organic carbon levels rising from 0.5% to 3.36%.
-
Water Conservation: Through the use of mulching and rainwater harvesting pits, his farm became highly resilient to drought. He successfully reduced his irrigation requirements to just one-tenth of what they previously were, serving as a replicable, sustainable model for other farmers in water-scarce regions.
3. Union Minister launched India’s New AI Chatbot ‘Samadhan Didi’ for Citizen Grievances

-
Multilingual Voice-First Interface: Samadhan Didi is an AI-enabled, voice-first chatbot integrated with the CPGRAMS (Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System). It allows citizens to register grievances simply by speaking in their preferred language, supporting all 22 scheduled Indian languages, with ongoing efforts to include regional dialects.
-
Simplified Filing Process: A major advantage of this tool is that users do not need to know the specific ministry, department, or category to which their complaint belongs. The AI understands the user's plain-language description, asks clarifying questions if necessary, automatically categorizes the grievance, and routes it to the appropriate government authority.
-
Purpose and Development: Developed by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) in collaboration with Bhashini, the chatbot is designed to "democratize" the grievance redressal mechanism.
4. Centre Notifies Export Levies On Petrol Diesel & ATF

-
Revised Duty Rates: Effective June 1, the government has set the export duty at ₹1.5 per litre for petrol, ₹13.5 per litre for diesel, and ₹9.5 per litre for ATF. These rates are collected entirely as Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED), with the Road and Infrastructure Cess (RIC) set to nil for these exports.
-
Purpose of the Levy: These export duties were originally introduced on March 27, 2026, to address supply volatility in the wake of the ongoing West Asia crisis. The primary goal of this "windfall tax" framework is to ensure adequate domestic fuel availability by discouraging private refiners from prioritizing high-margin exports over local supply.
-
Domestic Impact: The government has explicitly clarified that there is no change to the existing excise duty rates for petrol and diesel sold within the domestic market. Consequently, this revision is not expected to result in immediate changes to retail fuel prices for consumers.
5. MogaliVenkatram wins India’s first gold at Asian U-20 Athletics Championships

-
Gold Medal Victory: MogaliVenkatram won the gold medal in the men’s 800m event with a strong tactical performance, surging ahead in the final stretch to secure the top podium position.
-
Clarification on "First Gold": While Venkatram’s win was a significant achievement, it was the first gold for India specifically in the 800m event at this year's championships. India’s overall first gold medal of the entire tournament was secured earlier by Nitin Gupta in the men’s 5000m race walk.
-
India's Strong Campaign: The 2026 Asian U20 Athletics Championships proved to be a highly successful outing for the Indian contingent. India finished second in the overall medal standings with 19 medals (10 gold, five silver, and four bronze), marking their best-ever performance at the continental championships held on foreign soil.

-
Performance Context: SatwiksairajRankireddy and Chirag Shetty are top contenders in the world rankings and regularly compete in Super 750 events like the Singapore Open, making them frequent subjects of such reports.
