An Engineering Marvel Soaring Above the Chenab
The Chenab Bridge stands as a testament to India's engineering prowess, a stunning architectural feat that has overcome immense topographical and geological challenges. Soaring an astounding 359 meters (approximately 1,178 feet) above the Chenab River, it is 35 meters taller than the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris. The bridge spans a length of 1,315 meters (1.315 km), with its most distinctive feature being a magnificent steel arch stretching 467 meters.

Cable-crane technology was employed for precise component connection and safe construction.

Safety Features: A 780-meter-long blast protection platform, a first in India's rail sector, has been integrated to absorb explosion impact. Seismic dampers are also installed to dissipate seismic energy.
The USBRL Project: Connecting Kashmir to the Nation
- The Chenab Bridge is a pivotal component of the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, costing approximately ₹43,780 crore. This ambitious project, initiated over four decades ago, has aimed to integrate the Kashmir Valley into the national railway network. The USBRL project includes 36 tunnels spanning 119 kilometers and 943 bridges, traversing some of the most challenging Himalayan landscapes.
- Along with the Chenab Bridge, PM Modi also inaugurated the Anji Bridge, India's first cable-stayed railway bridge, further highlighting the engineering feats achieved in this region.
