SSC CGL 2019

SSC CGL is considered to be one of the biggest examinations to be conducted for graduate students in India. SSC conducts SSC CGL every year to recruit staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in its Subordinate Offices. The vacancies for which were not announced by the SSC. SSC CGL 2019 Notification will be released on July 2019(Tentative). SSC CGL 2019 will be a great opportunity for students looking forward for a position in the reputed organizations under the central government.

The approximate number of vacancies for different posts under SSC CGL 2019 recruitment, this year, is 9372. The vacancies are still not confirmed officially. The commission will upgrade the list by the final hiring.

3.    Educational Qualification:-
The basic and compulsory education qualification required under SSC CGL Eligibility is holding a Bachelor’s Degree / Graduation or any equivalent qualification from a recognized university.

4. Physical Fitness Requirements:
Apart from the above, there are certain requisite Physical Standards for Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/Preventive Officer), Sub-Inspector in CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and Sub-Inspector in NIA (National Investigation Agency).

SSC CGL Selection Process
Staff Selection Commission of India will be conducting SSC CGL 2019 Exam in four stages: Tier-1, Tier-2, Tier-3 & Tier-4 exam.
a)  Tier -I:- Written Examination (Multiple Choice- Computer Based Test).
b)  Tier -II:-  Written Examination (Multiple Choice- Computer Based Test).
c)  Tier -III: – Descriptive Test (Pen and Paper Mode).
d)  Tier -IV: – Data Entry Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test(wherever applicable)/ Document Verification.

SSC CGL 2019 : Exam Pattern

Staff Selection Commission of India will be conducting SSC CGL 2019 Exam in four stages: Tier-1, Tier-2, Tier-3 & Tier-4 exam. While Tier-I & Tier-II exam will be conducted online, Tier-III will be a pen and paper based exam and Tier-IV will be a computer skill test. Let's have a look at the exam pattern for all these stages of SC CGL 2019 Recruitment process one by one.

1. SSC CGL Tier I Examination
It consists of a paper of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carries a maximum of 200 marks to be solved in duration of 1hr.
The scheme of this test is given below in a table:

Penalty for wrong answer:
There is a negative marking of 0.50 Marks for each wrong answer. There is no sectional cut off. No point will be deducted if the question is left blank or unattempted by a candidate.

2. SSC CGL Tier II Examination
This test is also a multiple choice objective paper, but unlike Tier I, it held over a period of two days. For all posts excluding that related to Assistant Audit officer and Statistical Investigator, there are only two tests namely Quantitative Abilities and English Language. After Tier II test, the merit is made based on aggregate marks of Tier I and Tier II.

The scheme of this test is given below in a table:

There is a negative marking of 1/4 for each wrong answer. There is no sectional cut off. No point will be deducted if the question is left blank or unattempted by a candidate.
Note-:

  • In Tier-II, Paper-I and Paper-II are compulsory for all the posts.
  • In Tier-II, Paper-III will be for only those candidates who apply for the post of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for this Post/ Paper.
  • In Tier-II, Paper-IV will be for only those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-IV i.e. for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.

3. SSC CGL Tier III Examination
SSC - CGL Tier III is a descriptive type Examination and it is consist of easy writing and letter writing on the current issues of the country.
Tier-3 of SSC CGL will be a descriptive test. The paper will be in English/Hindi and will constitute of 100 marks. The entire paper needs to be completed in 60 minutes.

4. SSC CGL Tier IV Examination
After clearing the Tier I and Tier II, the selected candidates gets qualified for Tier III. Earlier the SSC, conducted Interview after Tier II but from last year it was discontinued. In this Tier, SSC checks Computer Proficiency Test/ Skills for the selected posts (SSC would name those posts in the upcoming notification) and this round is also meant for document verification for all the selected candidates.
SSC CGL Tier-4 Exam is a Computer Skill Test. It will be conducted in two steps: DEST Test & CPT Test.

DEST:- Candidates are required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes on a computer in English. This test is conducted to check a candidate's writing skills.

CPT:- This test is conducted to check a candidate's proficiency in Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Generation of Slides.

SSC CGL Examination Tier II Syllabus
Tier II exam consists of the following sections - Quantitative Ability, English language, Statistics, and General Studies. Each section consists of 200 marks and time allotted for each section is 2 hours. As you can see, the syllabus of Tier I and Tier II are almost same but the Tier II exam is much difficult to crack.

SSC CGL Examination Tier III Syllabus
Tier III exam is conducted in an offline mode. This is a descriptive paper in English or Hindi. This section generally includes essay writing, formal letter writing, informal letter writing, etc. It carries a total of 100 marks and total time allotted is 60 minutes.The time allotted for candidates belonging to PWD category is increased to 80 minutes.

  • For handicapped candidates, the time allotted is 80 minutes.

SSC CGL Examination Tier IV Syllabus
Tier-IV examination comprises of couple of skill sets required for certain Government Posts all over the country.

DEST ( Date Entry Speed Test ) : For the post of Tax Assistant (Central Excise and Income Tax),DEST Exam through SSC CGL 2018-19 exam is conducted to check the typing speed of the candidate. The candidates are given an article in English which they have to type on Computer. A candidate is required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes.

CPT ( Computer Proficiency Test ): Word Processing, Spread Sheets and Generation of slides are the three modules that are important for this exam and the commission demands a candidate to be proficient in it for the post of CSS, MEA, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), Inspector (Examiner).
Tier-I and Tier-II exam is compulsory for all posts mentioned in the SSC CGL 2018-19 Notification of while Tier-IV exam is taken by candidates applying specifically for TA, CSS, MEA and Inspector.

 SSC CGL : Admit Card and Other info
The admission ticket or hall ticket will be available a week before the scheduled date of exam for the respective candidate. Visit the official website in order to download the document. No physical copy of admit card through post would be dispatched.
Candidate will need Registration Number/Roll Number and the Password/D.O.B while logging in.
SSC will release SSC CGL Admit Card separately for different levels of Examination, i.e. Admit Card for Tier-I will be released first followed by Admit Card for Tier-II and so on. Admit Card for Tier-II will be issued to candidates who have qualified Tier-I Exam. Similarly, Admit Card for Tier-III will be issued to candidates who have cleared the Tier-II Exam and so on.

SSC will be releasing SSC CGL Cut-Off for 2019 Tier-I exam along with its result. SSC CGL 2018-19 Tier-I result and cut-off has been released on 20th August 2019. The cutoff of SSC CGL is the minimum qualifying marks that candidates have to secure to qualify the exam and become eligible for next round of selection process. SSC CGL cutoff is released separately for each stage of the recruitment process – Tier 1, 2, 3, 4. The cutoff for Tier 1 will be released along with SSC CGL result. Qs 1. What is SSC CGL?
SSC CGL is a Combined Graduate Level examination that recruits candidates for different posts in ministries/government offices.

Qs 2. What is the SSC CGL age limit?
Let us see the age limit criteria for each post;

Inspector (CBN), Auditor (C&AG) – 18 to 27 years
Assistant Section Officer (CSS, Railway, External Affairs, AFHQ), Sub Inspector (CBI) – 20 to 30 years
Inspector (CBEC), Assistant Audit Officer (IAA under CAG), Assistant Section Officer (IB), Income Tax Inspector (CBDT) – Not above 30 years
Assistant Enforcement Officer, Sub Inspector (NIA) – Not above 30 years
Junior Statistical Officer (M/O Statistics & Programming Implementation) – Not above 32 years

Qs 3. What should be my educational qualification for SSC CGL?
You should hold a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized University. For some specific posts, additional qualification is required. You can check that in the upcoming CGL notification.

Qs 4. How will I know if I am eligible to sit for the SSC CGL exam?
If you fulfill the age limit criteria and educational qualification requirement, half the job is done. In addition, you need to be a citizen of India and be medically fit to be 100% eligible for the posts.

Qs 5. Is there any criteria of minimum percentage required to apply for SSC CGL exam?
No, there is no minimum percentage or marks that you need to score in the degree exam.

No, Aadhar Card is not mandatory to register for SSC CGL.

Qs 9. Can I upload the passport size photo and signature in any format?
No, you must upload the photo and signature only in JPG/JPEG format.

Qs 9. What should be the size of the scanned copy of photograph and signature?
The scanned copy of the passport size photo should be between 30 to 50 kb. And the scanned copy of the signature should be between 1 to 12 kb.

Qs 10. Can I pay the application fee online?
Yes, you can pay the application fee online. You need to generate a challan online and then, visit a nearby bank in order to submit it.

Qs 11. What is the the application fee amount?
Application fee amount is Rs. 100-/ not refundable once paid. No application fee is required for SC/ST/female category.

Qs 12. Which category is not entitled to pay any application fee?
The candidates who belong to ST, candidates who are physically handicapped, Ex-servicemen and women candidates are not entitled to pay application fees.

Qs 13. What are the SSC CGL important dates?

Qs 14. Did SSC declare any new posts in these last few years? If yes, what is the name of the post?
Yes, a new post was introduced by SSC CGL which is Assistant Accounts Officer with grade pay of 4800.

Qs 15. Is the SSC CGL Tier I exam qualifying in nature?
No, its marks are added to prepare the final merit list.

Qs 16. What is the number of vacancies for SSC CGL 2018?
Vacancy for CGL 2018 is yet not published along with SSC CGL 2018 notification.

Qs 17. Is it compulsory to apply for SSC CGL Tier II Paper 3 (Statistical Investigator Gr.II & Compiler) and Paper 4 (Assistant Audit Officer)) as I have my name in the list?
No, it is not compulsory. The SSC Tier II conducts total 4 papers in which paper 1 (Quantitative Aptitude) and paper 2 (English) are mandatory for all the posts whereas paper 3 and paper 4 are optional. If you have applied for posts of Statistical Investigator Gr.II & Compiler and Assistant Audit Officer, then you can appear for paper 3 and paper 4.

Qs 18. If I have appeared for paper III statistics and unable to qualify, won’t I get any of the posts?
It is not an issue. If you are not able to pass in paper III, SSC will consider you for other posts as per your eligibility.
