1. Mary Kom clinches record 6th World Championship gold

  • M C Mary Kom became the most successful boxer in the history of Women's World Championships by winning her sixth gold medal with a unanimous 5-0 result over Ukraine's Hanna Okhota here.
  • The 35-year-old Mary Kom beat her opponent in the 48kg category without breaking a sweat. She now has an incredible six gold and one silver in the tournament.
  • With this gold, 'Magnificent Mary' also matched Cuban men's legend Felix Savon as the joint-most successful pugilist (men and women) in the World Championships history.

2. Uttarakhand cabinet ratifies renaming Jolly Grant airport after Vajpayee

  • The Uttarakhand cabinet has ratified a proposal to rename the Jolly Grant airport in the state capital after late prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee
  • A senior official said that Vajpayee was instrumental in the creation of Uttarakhand and hence renaming the airport after him would be a homage to him.
  • The proposal will now be sent to the Airports Authority of India and the Union Civil Aviation Ministry for approval.

 3. Sebi unveils rules for reclassification of promoter as a public investor 

  • Markets regulator Sebi has come out with new rules for re-classification of a promoter as a public investor, wherein an outgoing promoter will have to relinquish special rights as well as control over the affairs of the listed firm and not be allowed to hold over 10 percent stake.
  • The norms, aimed at simplifying, streamlining and bringing greater clarity in existing regulations, come after Sebi's board in September approved a proposal in this regard.
  • These norms will prevent the outgoing promoters from continuing to exercise their control on the company directly or indirectly.

4. World T20 renamed as T20 World Cup

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that it has renamed the ICC World T20 as the ICC T20 World Cup.
  • This means the next editions of the events in 2020 in Australia will be known as the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020.
  • The renaming of the event is also aimed at cementing the importance this event holds in the international cricket calendar and ensuring parity across all three formats of the game.

 5. UNICEF appoints singer Nahid Afrin as first 'Youth Advocate' of the northeastern region 

  • Popular singer Nahid Afrin of Assam has been appointed as the first 'Youth Advocate' of the northeastern region by the UNICEF to fight for child rights. UNICEF engages 'Youth Advocates' to harness their voice as agents of change in society.
  • UNICEF's India representative Yasmin Ali Haque said 17-year-old Nahid was appointed as 'Youth Advocate' in the North East at an event in Guwahati.
  • Nahid made her playback debut in the 2016 Bollywood film 'Akira' starring Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. She received the best female playback singer award at the Assam state Film Award 2018.

6. 26 November observed as constitution day

  • Constitution Day (National Law Day), also known as Samvidhan Divas, is celebrated in India on 26 November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India.
  • On 26 November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, and it came into effect on 26 January 1950.
  • The Government of India declared 26 November as Constitution Day on 19 November 2015 by a gazette notification.

 7. Uber Eats appoints Alia Bhatt as brand Ambassador 

  • Uber Eats, the world’s largest food delivery platform, announced the appointment of leading actress and youth icon, Alia Bhatt, as its brand ambassador.
  • India will be the first country for Uber Eats globally, to have appointed a brand ambassador.
  • Uber Eats is gaining popularity among consumers across 37 cities in India to order food of their choice at the click a button.

8. J-K Governor inaugurates 'Jhiri Mela'

  • Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik inaugurated a week-long 'Jhiri Mela' at village Jhiri in Jammu district.
  • The annual fair is commemorated in the memory of the martyrdom of 'Baba Jittoo', a farmer who gave up his life about 500 years ago in protest against the oppressive demands of a landlord.
  • A cultural program comprising folk songs and a Dogridance was presented by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of ArtCulture and Languages on the occasion.

9. Jharkhand Day celebrated at IFFI

  • Jharkhand Day was celebrated at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa
  • Jharkhand is the focus state at this year’s IFFI. This is for the first time that any state has been made focus state at IFFI.
  • Jharkhand is home to some of the biggest celebrities including, MS Dhoni, Priyanka Chopra, and archer Deepika Kumar.
