1.Wrestler Vinesh Phogat wins gold in women's 53 kg freestyle at Poland Ranking Series
- Tokyo Olympic Games bound wrestler Vinesh Phogat won the women’s 53kg freestyle gold with an 8-0 win over Khrystyna Bereza of Ukraine at the Poland Ranking Series in Warsaw yesterday. With less than 50 days to go for the Olympic Games to begin, Vinesh looked strong in defence and swift in attacks and counter-attacks.
- The gold-winning effort of Vinesh is likely to improve her seeding in the 53kg freestyle event at the Olympics, to be held from July 23 to August 8. Khrystyna settled for silver.
2.World Day Against Child Labour 2021: 12 June
- The International Labour Organization (ILO) launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 to focus attention on the global extent of child labour and the action and efforts needed to eliminate it.
- Each year, on 12 June, World Day Against Child Labour brings together governments, employers and workers organizations, civil society, as well as millions of people from around the world to highlight the plight of child labourers and what can be done to help them.
- The theme of this year’s World Day Against Child Labour is Act now: End child labour!.
3.U.S. Senate Confirms First Muslim Federal District Judge
- The US Senate has approved the historic nomination of Pakistani-American Zahid Quraishi to the District Court in New Jersey, making him the first Muslim federal judge in the country’s history.
- The Senate voted 81-16 to confirm Quraishi, 46.
- As many as 34 Republicans joined the Democrats in confirming the first-ever Muslim-American as a federal judge.

4.Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Launches Jagananna Thodu Scheme
- Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will be launching Jagananna Thodu scheme, which aims at providing a helping hand to small and petty vendors across the State.
- Under the scheme, an interest-free loan of Rs 10,000 will be provided to 3.7 lakh small and petty vendors at an expenditure of Rs 370 crore.
- The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy on November 25, 2020 and this is the second consecutive year the scheme is being extended to benefit the small and petty vendors.
- The main objective of the scheme is to free vendors from paying heavy interest to the loans taken from private parties.

- Purohit will note Sanjeev Singh, chief operations officer, at the Bengaluru-based company.
- Purohit brings with him over 25 years of experience across banking and financial services, centered around innovation in digital banking, financial management, business solutions & service delivery, portfolio & program management, risk & controls and information security.

7.Bangladesh appointed Lt General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed as next army chief
- Lieutenant General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed will replace outgoing Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Army General Aziz Ahmed.
- Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Ibne Jayed, director of the Bangladeshi Defense Ministry’s Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) department, confirmed to Xinhua that Ahmed will take charge of the Bangladesh Army in a formal handover on June 24 when General Aziz formally retires.

9.New plant species from coffee family spotted in Wagamon
- A new plant species belonging to the coffee family spotted in the scenic Wagamon hills in Kerala has been named Argostemma quarantena to commemorate the millions who have died in the COVID-19 pandemic.
- A delicate herbaceous species from the family Rubiaceae, Argostemma quarantena was discovered along quick-flowing streams in an isolated evergreen patch along the Idukki-Kottayam border.
- The plant was identified by a research team consisting of Anoop P. Balan and A.J. Robi, faculty of the Department of Botany, Bishop Abraham Memorial College, Thuruthicad, Pathanamthitta district; and N. Sasidharan, former Chief Scientist, Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI), Peechi. Their findings have been published in the latest issue of Webbia journal of plant taxonomy and geography.
10.Noted Kannada poet Siddalingaiah passed away at 67
- Noted Kannada poet Siddalingaiah passes away on 11th June due to Covid-19 related ailments.Popularly known as "Dalita Kavi" (Dalit Poet), he was 67.
- Siddalingaiah was poet, playwright, essayist and a Dalit activist, and was one of the founders of the Dalita Sangharsh Samiti. His notable works include Holemadigara Haadu, Saaviraaru Nadigalu, Kappu Kaadina Haadu and Meravanige, among others. He had written plays like Panchama, Ekalavya, and one of his popular essays was Gramadevathegalu.
