1). TAL developed and launched India’s first industrial robot
- ‘Brabo’ is the first indigenously made industrial robot.
- It is developed by TAL manufacturing solution, a fully owned subsidiary of TATA.
- It is made especially to work in micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) under Make in India initiative.
- It would manage raw material and product packaging. Two variants of Brabo launched one to handle 2 Kg payload and another for 10 Kg.
- The name Brabo is derived from the combination of two words; bravo and robot.
2). Parliament passed HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2017
- The Bill aims to prohibit discrimination against those infected with HIV positive persons and those living with them.
- It guarantees equal rights in medical treatment and admission to educational institutions and jobs in both private and public offices.
- It would also ensure in getting equal treatments in public sphere like housing, access to insurance and freedom of movement.
- It would also prohibit any unfair and discriminated publishing of articles especially with the feeling of hatred towards those living with this incurable and fatal disease.
- There is a provision to penalize those who does not go down well with this Bill under civil and criminal proceedings.
- This is the first National HIV law in South Asian region.
- India is running the world’s second largest Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) programme which is 100% sponsored by central government.
3). Pulitzer Prize 2017 announced
- It is the most prestigious awards in U.S. journalism
- Pulitzer Price 2017 is the 101th edition which was announced at Columbia University.
- This year those journalists are awarded who runs an anti Trump campaign during and after elections.
- List of winners:
- National Reporting Award: David Fahrenthold of ‘The Washington Post’
- Commentary: Peggy Noonen of ‘The Wall Street Journal’
- Public Service Model to ‘New York Daily’
- Fiction: Colson Whitehead for the novel ‘The Underground Railroad’ (based on slavery).
4). Google celebrated 130th birth anniversary of Jamini Roy
- Google Doodle displayed sketch of famous Indian painter Jamini Roy on his 130th birth anniversary on 11th April.
- Google displayed his famous sketch ‘Black Horse Painting’.
- He was hailed from Kolkata and learnt British Academic Style of Painting in 1916 from Government College of Art, Kolkata.
- Instead of painting in Victorian Art, he developed Indian art and folk esp on rural themes.
- He was awarded with Padma Bhushan Award in 1954 and also Viceroy’s gold medal in 1934.
